Funny you said that. I saw her photo in the thumbnail, thought the same thing, and went down a Game of Thrones rabbit hole, came back, scrolled down and found your comment. Trump isn’t exactly a Stannis though.

After saying Jan 6 was his first day he said that’s what’s going to happen if the Democrats don’t change the law to require citizens to bring their passports or birth certificates to vote. His party will tell voters that the results are untrustworthy if they don’t add this overlay for the first time in US history. It was absolutely a threat. Pass our legislation or there is hell to pay.

You’re missing my point. I’m talking about his personal relationship with his religion, not how he might impose it on others, including her. I assume he loves her and if he is serious he ought to be terrified about her salvation. But I don’t think that’s the case. I think he is not serious about his religion nor the other strong stances he appears to take. The issue of the salvation of his wife should be his most serious concern and if he can wave that away it just proves that he doesn’t mean anything he says. My biggest problem with Trump is that is a deeply immoral man without values to guide him. Vance was supposed to shore up the support of the right but he’s just as rudderless.

I was going to refute your comment but to be honest I use it largely because of those features. I’ve used MacOS for over 30 years and recently bought an AMD workstation for development work when my MacBook didn’t cut it anymore. It would be a good experiment to try an all local MacOS experience to see how it stacks up and I think it would probably be ok. You can install a lot of desktop apps using Brew to keep your system up to date. The main advantage that Mac has over Linux is that a lot of corporate software is available that otherwise can only be obtained on Windows. When I realized that windows in a VM on Linux wasn’t for me I more or less converted my Linux machine to a server for most use cases.

My take on JD Vance is that he’s a talented guy who figured out that if he can transform into this right wing guy then he can have a career. Being a conservative catholic is part of that mask. The biggest tell to me is the timing of his conversion and the fact that his wife is Hindu. If he takes his Christianity as seriously as he claims, then his top priority should be to convert his wife, not respect her choice to do her own thing.

Based on your comment, it is highly unlikely that you would have used Linux desktop in the late 90s for the same reason you wouldn’t use Haiku today. A lot of people feel out on computers, if it was just about doing work then the vintage computer hobbyists would all find something else to do.

Let’s be honest. Any social norms about when drinking is socially acceptable go out the window at airports. It’s been that way as long as I can remember. But Ryan Air/Spirit/frontier passengers all kind of self select for having a miserable experience so I don’t blame them for trying to numb the pain.

I cannot imagine America electing a gay man president. I hadn’t really thought about it until he did well at the Iowa caucus in 2020 and they asked one of her supporters about him being gay and you could see her get the ick. Michelle Obama was completely right in her DNC speech that people like her and Harris and Barack don’t get second, third, fourth chances, and I think this is doubly true for Mayor Pete. Honestly this might be useful to the home user but everyone is right to be skeptical. The bigger value for the software is corporate surveillance. So electors from Nevada could place both their Presidential and Vice Presidential electoral votes with an all-California ticket but California electors may not.
