  • I think that happened to many technologies that became mainstream. Also, op is about what the tech bros will jump on, so it doesn't have to be widely useful, for example blockchain is still pretty niche.

  • VR and AR will get a second run once the UX is improved and power to run it becomes small and cheap enough. Quantum computing is around the corner.

  • I'm not from NA and I don't think that's specific to NA, I saw this in people from Western Europe, Northern Africa and Japan. Also whatever positive aspect of traditional culture there may be, everything seems to get crushed by the social media bulldozer consumeing hours a day from childhood.

  • All the Tokyo parks will have blossom in a prettier setting but they will be overcrowded for the peak of Hanami. Big temples and castles will also have pretty gardens with blossom. If you get there before cherry blossom, you can also see plum and peach blossom which is pretty too, but not as spectacular in volume. I don't think there's much natural about cherry blossom, it is a deliberate thing. For more nature, look for the popular mounts and mountains, some are very accessible by public transportation like Mount Takao or the various mounts in Hakone.

  • Agreed, masculists, especially the young ones, are mostly socially anxious and socially scared people who find shelter from their anxiety by oppressing another group. The solution is probably to work on this social anxiety from childhood.

  • I don't deny that the current experience of life is different because of gender/sex. So I am rather talking about the target, a society without sexism.

Is it really so difficult to accept that men might find purpose or value that differs from women?

Yes, I am indeed questioning this point. Is this difference in the essence of the gender or is it a social construct?

For me, it's actually not hard to imagine that men and women could share the same distribution of purposes and values, if the environment in which they grew up supported it. The diversity would be based on the uniqueness of individuals with little to no influence from the gender.

I find it very oppressing to have the specific framework you mention associated to you because of your gender. What about transgender people or people who don't associate with a traditional gender?

  • Kind of agree, and so are modern cities in Japan in general, everything is asphyxiated under concrete, including river, and there's no attempt at regulating construction to create an aesthetic.

  • Do we really need to make the framework different for male and female humans? Why not use one for humans and teach tolerance to difference in general? I don't think many of the issues we face will be solved if we keep two different frameworks.

  • Why do you think it's a generalization on boys rather than a denunciation of the negative impact of masculinists on boys?

  • Only if they come from Wink, Winkler County, Texas. Otherwise they are just sparkling eyelead carrier and receiver.

  • Is it a sarcastic post? Internet was not safer before, it's just much more accessible to kids nowadays, the good and the bad, thanks to wireless connections, small portable computers and easy UIs.

  • I guess this means your parents are from China too? If yes, then they grew up in a country were demonstrating against the government gets you rolled over by tanks. They have been taught that politics is not something for the people, the party takes care of it for them and they should just focus on being good hard working citizens. So, I would think their behavior is a mix of fearing for your life, which they value way more than politics, and an ingrained lack of faith in the people being able to change politics.
Consider this bias and make your personal choice, especially if you're legally an adult.

  • Agreed, especially if you're writing to someone who's not completely fluent in the language. Also use short sentences and common vocabulary.

  • It's easier to delete an account than avoiding conscription and bombs. The mental health impact of social network is bad, but not comparable to world war times.

  • China is clearly going to win this part, they are not adding tariffs on the rest of the world like Trump is doing, they will win market shares because of this. Trump's policies are actually speeding up the rise of China as the first power on many points: international free trade, renewable energies and brain drain, for example.

  • There are a lot of species that we made disappear in the last 150 years that could be beneficial to restoring current ecosystems.

  • Still better than being a young adult in the 1910' or the 1940', so far.
