  • Every single one of my "internet facing" devices is blocked from accessing the internet at the router. If I want to access them they either get added to my HomeAssistant instance or another computer that's only accessible from the outside through my VPN.

All of the convenience with the privacy concerns practically eliminated. It costs $6 a month in hosting for the VPS I set the wireguard server up on.

  • -- and once the revolution succeeds what you have is a group of independently minded and experienced "revolutionaries". So naturally they need to be purged to protect those now in power.

  • I just wish there was a FOSS alternative to Rhino 3D, or they offered a license that didn't cost $995 for a single user.

None of the cloud crap, doesn't required a subscription, and it can run on a potato ... it's just too damn expensive and Mac OS/Windows exclusive.

  • If it weren't so difficult and require so much effort, I'd rather clicking the link cause the server to switch to serving up poisoned data -- stuff that will ruin a LLM.

  • The fire service also usually gives preference points to veterans.

Although I don't know why anyone would want higher pay, better benefits, and people not hating them.

  • Some of the modern recreations of neanderthals look like people I've seen in bars.

On a cold night after a few handfuls of fermented berries ... I probably would too.

  • Or genetic defects.

"Something about that person is extremely off-putting. I do believe I'm not going have sex with them."

  • Even "good quality" stainless steel can easily rust, as anyone who's owned quality kitchen knives will tell you. Some stainless alloys are more resistant than others -- but exposed to the right conditions they all corrode.

  • I try to buy non-DRM downloadable media. If it's impossible ... I'll buy it and then "obtain" the non-DRM version. I make sure I have a digital backup of physical media too.

My stance is "Fuck 'em, I paid for it." I'm not going to be beholden to a service or system that's likely to disappear at some point, or a physical thing that can break.

  • There are designs for face paint specifically to defeat facial recognition.

  • People give my "deep blue" state crap for corruption because so many of our politicians have been sent to prison for it.

... Ignoring that they're in prison because we actually investigate and charge our politicians for corruption, unlike their corrupt as hell states where those people are protected.

  • The theater adaptation of Where the Sidewalk Ends was one of our middle school plays at our decidedly "rural" school.

One mom had a problem with it, and it was only with the "rebellious" bits. She shut up when every other parent rolled their eyes at her. It's crazy how attitudes shift.

  • Resiliency is incredibly valuable, and being in and working through tough situations is the greatest teacher for it. E.g. "I've dealt with worse, this is nothing."

But there are definitely healthy and unhealthy ways to gain resiliency. Those tough situations should be a net positive experience, and a something gradually worked up to in a way that doesn't cause physical/mental harm to one's self -- always in pursuit of something worthwhile.

Fucked up shit pushed by insecure weirdos on the internet is none of those things.

  • If you get windows one step above "cheapest available" you get a moveable screen.
