Bully pulpit. He doesn't have the force of personality necessary to use the powers the president does have to make his will enacted via the other branches of government. Other candidates, whole not fully having it, had more of it.

If we had a president with the force of will, personality, and smarts of FDR in the modern era they'd be able to do all of those things in spite of the separation of powers.

So they do cover stuff as it happens in the news so going back to the beginning you'll hear about stuff you may already know about. However, their positions are interesting and they often give context that wasn't made available at the time.

You'd also get to hear all the bits evolve and learn about the things that will later be references (spacs, financial crimes, weird name guys, etc)
