  • I think it's based on two things: where you are and how the letters start when written.

When writing letters n and U, both are started at their leftmost position (for most people) and their topmost position (for most people).

In the UK, or other places where you drive on the left, a u-turn would make a little n. While you aren't starting the turn from the topmost position of the letter, you are starting on the left of the letter.

In the US and other countries where you drive on the right, you make a U-turn because viewed from above you are making a U that starts from the top and left of the letter. While from your immediate perspective while driving your making a lowercase n but starting from the right, from above it's the classic U movement that occurs.

    Just a guess though.

  • Honestly no, not without much better curation of what the next models are fed on. As is, the Internet is now getting covered with ai text, images, sound, and video. Models fed on the internet as a whole will end up consuming already ai content, which over time will result in us creating ai Hapsburgs.

  • TERF isn't a slur, it's an accurate descriptor.

Terfs are trans exclusionary. Terfs are on the borders of feminist thought, making them radical (and not in the cool way).

They only want it to be a slur so they aren't accurately described as what they are.

  • The difference here is that there is no supposed or even desired value from the people participating here. We're not all trying to get rich off of this, nor are we trying to replace all forms of communication here like many crypto purists wish would happen with Bitcoin replacing the dollar. Nothing rides on this being a success, perpetual growth isn't necessary, and defederation doesn't mean that our communities wouldn't still have worth to us.

  • The nice thing is that if things do become shit on one instance, the rest just disconnect. The lack of total control over the system by one entity ensures that there is no complete capture to enable the enshitification from taking root and destroying what is good about it.
