  • +1 for Yoshi's Island

  • If/when it comes to a vote I'll vote to defederate just about any corporate-backed entrance into the fediverse, including any Threads instances. I think in the long run they will ruin whatever they touch.

  • Whose strong emotional response? If it were a rule that users should be civil to each other, or that we need to stay on topic for the post, I'd agree since those are I think more easy to delineate. But if I just use a word you don't like, and it's not a slur or targetting hate at you or anyone else, I don't think it should be against the rules.

  • Where do we draw the line for "overly obscene"? And is this even a problem? Can I see a link to an example?

  • I disagree. Is your point that it's "uncivilized"? Personally, I don't mind whatever language anyone uses in this community, unless they're verbally attacking another user which I think should be handled by mods like any other forum.

Edit: calls to violence and bigotry should be handled by mods too

Edit2: Also, the word shit, one most would consider "vulgar", is in the instance name, so it's kinda ridiculous to want to ban such words from this community

  • This all isn't happening immediately. It'll be debated for a good while, and then voted on, and then it'll take some work to actually implement assuming it passes. No one's going to go through everyone's account individually to verify their vote, we'll need a bot for that.

Also, I don't think 2 weeks is that long at all. The vast majority of everyone's time on this instance they will be eligible for voting. I really don't see why 2 weeks when they first make an account is such a huge amount.

  • I'd like lurkers to be able to vote so long as they meet a timescale. It could be like 2 months since account creation for lurkers, or 2 weeks + a certain post/comment threshold for more active participants of the instance.
