Do you also perform this kind of background check for every product you buy in the supermarket? Or is this level of scrutiny reserved for open source developers that give software away for free? Fact is that none of this is related to Lemmy development in the slightest. Would you be happier if I left Lemmy to stagnate so users go back to Reddit?

There was no hardcore refusal because this matter wasnt even mentioned as a blocker for donations until a few days ago. In fact lemmy.ml hosting is only funded via Opencollective, so if you donate through any other platform the money goes entirely to developer salaries.

Sure I retract everything I said in that private message, it was posted without much thinking and certainly not meant for publication. Not sure what "trans rights" are exactly, but obviously human rights apply to everyone including transgender people.

Or it never happened in the first place.

So you expect us to make a lot of major changes to the oldest Lemmy instance in existence and disappoint many users. All for the goal of maybe possibly getting a few more donations, without any guarantee. Its more likely that youre a cheapskate looking for any excuse to avoid donating, and keep using Lemmy without contributing at all. If you dont want to donate at least be honest, I would respect that.

Afaik they also donate a bit, but they also dont have a lot of money to spare after server costs.

You make some good points. But keep in mind that I dont live in the United States, and I have never even met a transgender person irl. For me this is something which is only discussed online, so Im missing a lot of context and information. Case in point, I had no idea what "Black History Month" is and had to look that up. Anyway if I discuss this topic further it will be through an anonymous alt account, to avoid any further drama.
