  • Question about zotero, I just started using it and I can’t seem to find a way to direct it to PDFs I have already downloaded? Is there a way to do that or does it only have the PDF finding feature?

You can just drag and drop PDFs. Either to the list to create a new item or to an existing item if you already have it there.

Also, is there a way to make it always use the classic interface when adding a citation? I keep having to click “show classic interface” or whatever the button is, and it’s a tad annoying.

Zotero: Edit: Preferences: Cite: Word processors: Use classic Add Citation dialog [X]

  • I don't think so. Dynamic Shots are proprietary and limited to Google Photos

  • PC:

    1. Libreoffice -- the best, most customisable and powerful office software available
    2. Onlyoffice -- alternative for less-advanced users who are used to the UI of contemporary MSO
    3. Zotero -- great bibliography manager useful when writing scientific papers: lets you collect books, journal articles and all other types of sources, automatically finds full text PDFs online, fills in metadata and then inserts dynamic citations in thousands of different, customisable styles. Also generates bibliographies. Works with LO, MSO and GDocs
    4. Caprine -- clean Facebook Messenger client (web wrapper based)
    5. TeXStudio -- my LATeX editor of choice; integral (ha!) when formatting maths-heavy documents

    Android:

    1. Cloudstream --- free streaming app, works with SFlix, Sodastream, PH and other legally dubious streaming providers. Takes some trickery to set up though.
    2. Osmand --- OpenStreetMap client with offline (optional online) navigation and plenty of plugins; loads of customisation
    3. Material Files --- nicest file manager, especially for rooted devices
    4. Showly --- freemium open-source TV and film tracker. Syncs with Trakt.tv
    5. Simple Gallery --- out of all Simple Apps by this developer, this is the only one which is in fact superior to its alternatives. Highly customisable, powerful, lightweight gallery app
  • Libre office, a great office option. I’ve been using it for 15 years. Foreshadowing

I love LO as well, it's perfect if you're used to old versions of MS Office and like to be in control of everything. A good open-source alternative for the new releases of MS Office is Onlyoffice.

  • My exact though at first. Then I remembered probably half of all Xitter accounts are ghost anyway. Which makes 30% overall decrease equivalent to 60% decrease within active users.

  • Czarny Roman (Black Roman), a homeless guy from my town, who used to wander the streets in a dark suit and hat (in winter he switched to neon-coloured ski robes). The story goes he used to run a black-market currency exchange in the 80s and was terribly rich, but either a business partner fucked him over or he lost it all at a casino; he went nuts and ended up on the street. A different story says he ran a coffee shop with his ex-wife. Some claim he used to study at the University here or even the Fine Arts Academy. He had a family (they were interviewed at his funeral by the press) who reside in New York and probably only they know the real story. He was strongly against drugs, cigarettes and alcohol; aparently used to discourage kids from smoking. He wilfully gave up social housing and spent many years wandering about and talking to people about art, poetry, music, yoga and death. He claimed he was immortal and once left a note on a napkin which gave a glimpse of his early life. Apparently he was born in 1950 and his mother was murdered by his father. He claimed Warsaw will be hit a with a meteorite and claimed to know the dates of death of passerby's. He never begged for help, even had his own food and was sometimes supported by people he talked to. I've never talked to him myself but he was on a "good morning" basis with lots of people here and seemed to be able to remember them well.

    wiki article in Polish

some article about him released soon after his demise, also in Polish

some forum post about him, Polish as well

a music video with him (around 2:50)

  • mate I get what you're saying, but doing simple calculations using functions in a spreadsheet is helpful in everyday life, it's really unfair to compare it to welding

  • what do you think is important enough to be a general school subject, if not computer literacy?

  • you won't get a job if you don't know the tools.

  • When I learned balls have a significant role in child-making my first though was women got pregnant by surgically transfering a man's testicle to their belly. Then I realized balls come in two's and I do in fact have more than one sibling

  • You can use a Bluetooth FM transmitter, some have very decent audio quality, like I used one from Xiaomi (Roidmi something something) and for me it was undistinguishable from regular BT audio

  • Firefox at the moment, but every so often I get fed up with its performance and switch to Chrome. Won't happen anytime soon at the moment, due to the Mv3 shit they are pulling off though

  • No, secularism is about people having the freedom of religion. Being forced by family or peers to wear religious clothing is incompatible with freedom of religion.

  • Well, yes. "Hating Mexicans" is not racism. Just like hating the French, Poles, or Americans. It's nationalism, xenophobia, chauvinism etc, but not racism
