It’s not the “fault” of amoral individuals, no. This is simply the system working as intended. A system where capital translates to political power will inevitably lead to capital accumulation. Corporations are only for generating more capital and more profits to their owners. Profits they can turn into more capital elsewhere.

It’s silly to expect a “good” version of this where the people at the top… don’t put their interests first? Like why would they ever do that? If someone at the top doesn’t fight for profit like a shark, they will lose their spot and risk becoming a worker, or dooming their family and future generations to become workers.

These people are just doing what’s best for them. And everybody around says “hey! that’s bad, you should put aside your self interest for our self interest!”.

Bro the problem is THE SYSTEM. As long as we have this system, we will always have the same people in power, the same problems, and the planet will die in 50 years. You can fight reality all you want, but that’s where we’re at.

Tbh that’s pretty much like all of our “common sense” knowledge develops, so that makes sense.

The wiki says out of ~1200 societies studied only ~180 were monogamous. And that 16% of the monogamous were not strictly monogamous. I don’t know why the wiki would help your case.

That’s… not true? Monogamy was not the primary form of bonding through humanity’s history. It actually is only recently a global phenomenon, mostly due to European colonialism and the spread of Christianity.

You really need to show some data or sources to backup such a claim tbh. It contradicts most of anthropology of bonding and relationships.

The US and NATO literally internationalised Nazism.

Nazism’s main inspiration was the USA. Manifest Destiny is Lebensraum, racial segregation are the Jewish ghettos, the holocaust is the indigenous genocide. Aryan supremacy and the breeding programs are American eugenics. Hitler even says as much.

And the US saw all that and thought “damn, that’s too on the nose. But those guys are good. Let’s take all of them and hide them around the world and learn as much as we can!”.

Then after WW2 you get the Indonesian politicide of over 1 million people (a political genocide). You get dozens of millions killed in military invasions by the US in Vietnam and Korea.

The “stay-behind” fascist organisations in Europe, in Greece, Turkey, Italy etc. killed thousands of anarchists and communists and kept the pre-war status quo under a more American “hidden” fascism (read on Operation Gladio, P2, Organisation Gehlen etc etc etc.).

And yea, it might be hard to find some sources on all this. Because this all was secret, by the CIA or black orgs. But still, you CAN find a lot. At least to paint the big picture.

Which is: fascism is the modern name for European colonial ideology. It was epitomised and perfected in the USA, and it came into conflicts with communism in Europe. The USSR was clearly steamrolling Germany, so the US had to interfere to stop the USSR from reaching London. After WW2, the European colonial ideology (fascism) simply returned to its pre-war state and continued to grow under the guidance of the US. The US managed to dismantle most of its enemies, and “won history” in the 90s. Now we basically live in this neoliberal fascistic hellhole people call “late stage capitalism”, where millions of black and brown people die of starvation while breaking their backs hauling the resources needed to keep the middle class of the Imperial Core pacified and happy.

Things are falling apart again, because capitalism can’t sustain itself, so the extreme right is rising again, certainly with the help of the same CIA and black orgs as before, to ensure a leftist (anti-capitalist, socialist) revolution never happens again.

That’s true. If the public housing is numerous enough (and not relegated to the peripheries of the urban centers) and properly ran, it would likely have a faster impact on prices than any other thing. That’s how Vienna resolved a lot of their housing issues in the 20th century (then promptly forgot about the solution and abandoned it forever lol. Still Vienna is much cheaper to rent than most other major European cities…).

While “nuance” can indeed be good, it can’t be based on vibes.

If we analyse the data, we know that more than 10% of the active real estate market is subject to international investment and speculation. And the majority of the active real estate market is in major urban centres (with a very big portion in Lisbon alone).

Amazon, when it was first starting out as a book-seller, made a realisation that if they controlled only 6% of a book’s sales they controlled 100% of the price.

If investors control over 6% of the active real estate market, they control the prices. International investors have much more capital than local Portuguese. Investors need prices to keep rising.

The outcome of the current housing crisis is not due to some Portuguese people owning one or two houses. It’s due to international investors buying properties to rent out on Airbnb and expecting their investment to keep rising double percentage digits every year. They might control only around 10% of the market, but they can control the prices with this.

Also, there are enough houses. Portugal doesn’t need to build more houses to solve the housing crisis. Not that building more houses is bad. But it’s not the best and cheapest solution.

The state can eminent-domain empty houses or force them to be rented out long-term. Ban Airbnb. Create laws that enshrine housing as a human right and not a capital market.

But I also support the state building more public housing. That is always good. Public housing ran as a housing co-op is perfect as well. But the state can just buy empty ones and put them under co-ops as well, and that would be likely be cheaper.

Portugal has one the highest numbers of houses per inhabitant in the world. Over 40 per inhabitant. There are 700,000 empty homes in Portugal, not counting airbnbs and second homes. A country of 10,000,000 people.

From 2020 to 2023 there was an increase of 400,000,000 euros in international investment in the Portuguese real estate market. It literally doubles in 3 years.

There is a high number of houses that are kept as investments (empty, second houses, airbnbs etc.). This keeps the market hostage to an international investor class, who in every way but literally have infinite money.

This problem will keep getting worse and worse as long as the government doesn’t do something to fix the root of the issue.

Housing should not be a capital market to be speculated on. There should be no investors in housing.

Things people need to survive can’t be subject to market forces.

Homelessness and lack of housing affordability is exclusively an issue of neoliberal capitalism and the infection of every facet of our existence with “the market”.

All you describe doesn’t contradict the idea of consciousness at all. Indeed there is no consciousness in the systems and in the self-awareness. Those are the results of matter interacting in increasingly complex ways.

Consciousness is not the mind though.

It’s awareness itself. It’s the “experience of being”. You can’t direct your consciousness towards itself, it is the base. Existence is the base. Awareness, being.

This is more and more clear the more you do try to feel it, to “see” it. And more and more it’s clear you are it. You aren’t “you”, the clump of cells that spurt out random thoughts. You’re the one who sees the thoughts. Who hear the sounds. Who believed it was you. But you are it. The base. You are being, awareness. And nothing more. But it really is all there is.

The universe, the whole of reality, that we experience is consciousness. It’s a “dream” in a way. A simulation, but not a computer one.

At least this is a very very old idea. One of the oldest actually, that we have records for.

And coincidentally, physics and the study of consciousness through science are bringing us closer and closer to it again…

It’s absolutely a historical fact that the USSR and the Red Armies were the most directly responsible for the Nazi defeat in WW2, the liberation of Jews, Roma and other minorities. And honestly, saving the fucking world.
