  • Why I feel Stratospheric Aerosol Injection will be the route to go, yes stop pollution now is better long term, but no one wants to pay the price if there is a chance someone else will. So we might as well put on a bandage to the festering wound and continue using our carbon based energy like a still addicted junkie.

Up until a profitable solution starts making an appearance why would powerful selfish people make sacrifices

  • Easy, tell him then the shares they want to give him cannot be sold immediately then, like 5 years of holding. But also include a section that says his current holdings must then also be tied to the new shares holding period, since he said he was first in and will be last out, should not be a problem and will be a great motivator.

  • Yeah it is a hard question, like can be argued that there are too many people for the society and they need to be purged. Yeah I do not have a good answer but I think my point is rather that freedom isn't freedom, just agreed confines in society that is ever evolving, that in my opinion should be based in reason, and it is society's duty to use the correct reasoning.

Like you mention allowing human sacrifices in the name of reproduction. The question is a bit loaded but reasoning can be used, what is human sacrifices? We do allow the death of certain individuals in certain societies, soldiers in war, criminals in execution, children that do not have access to resources like, shelter, food or medication. Can smoking and drinking be seen as a violation of life, since it slowly takes it away, what about unhealthy food or even drugs, does any vices like gambling or sex seen could be threatening to the quality of life. You see how life actually is valuable to a certain degree in society but then there is also a freedom to throw it away. There are reproductive rights, should everyone have a right to have children? What if this person is 7 years old? What if this person already had all their children taken away due to incest and molestation on multiple occasions. Can you abort whenever like at 8 months or 1 week or is it when two gametes form an embryo. What if it is a non-viable embryo, what if this embryo implanted itself in a place outside of a womb and abortion in this instance will save the mothers reproductive organs to have future successful pregnancies.

There are very few things that are black and white in this life, very very few, so I believe there should be an ongoing discussion and that laws should follow reason and compassion for the vulnerable, that laws must constantly change, especially the laws, decrees, holy texts that invested people say should never change no matter the reason

  • You aren't free to do anything unless we live in the wild. Society is built on the premise that we work together and place restrictions on certain things where we can live in harmony. But it is an ever evolving set of rules, and just because the law says so does not make it just, slavery was a law, apartheid was a law, the purge in a fictional America is a law. So I believe we must constantly evolve our laws with reason, to allow as much freedom in society even at an individual level, where society can grow and lead to the most benefit for the majority of people

  • Just when F1 started becoming insanely popular after DTS, myself included, and seeing F1 wooing the USA to grow their sport, F1 is fucking up. Like F1 has always been open to other teams it is just now that they decided fuck anyone who wants to enter F1. If they just wanted 10 teams after the cost cap regulations they should have stated it. Not give false hopes and always move the goal post. And now after moving mountains establishing F1 in America they spit in its face denying Andretti, they are just opening themselves up asking for the us government to step in and review these anticompetitive behaviour and fuck up their USA dreams.

  • So cool you work on submarines that is extremely cool, I am in a way different industry, mining. Jeez I wished we had your safety record of only one lost submarine. Our industry has gone through a couple of mines in the same period.

But wow, how does the safety of submarines compare to other industries, granted outside of war times, like compared to trains or even other seafaring vessels

  • Usually these program's rules seem very tedious and restrictive and I can easily see one person looking at this and think they are in place to stifle innovation and keep the little guy out.

I remember how he said to not have regulatory approval because of of this or that, but why not get a regulatory expert to have a look, might not approve your vessel but might show clearly missed safety critical blindspots.

But these rules exist for a reason, they where usually written in blood, it's how I know this incident added rules to your SUBSAFE program.

  • I think this was the original sin, the root cause. One man's vanity and arrogance, which made him blind to his own shortcomings. He build something great, let us not lie, but we can clearly see in hindsight the obvious truth. Well if what people that know way more than I do are right, the vessel imploded quicker than the neurons in your brain, so it must've been an quick painless death

  • I have no issues with the controller either think it was a great addition, were I had a gripe is that it was the only way to operate the vessel, so not an addition but the sum total of controls.

Like if you were bolted into a vehicle, with no way to interact with the outside except a tiny window and only a game controller, it is a lovely piece of efficient engineering and does everything you need, but if this controller maybe gets damaged for example it's cable was unfortunately pinched off by someone's shoe. When you realise at a 1000m the closest thing to a god is that controller working and taking you safely back to surface in time or being stuck and hoping the guy who got you into the mess, that his, only other plan the dissolvable ropes on the weights actually work and you get to surface and get found and unsealed before air runs out.

  • Was the issues not multiple, like the carbon fibre hul not made using vacuum technologies but just like roll on the sheet and some epoxy in a warehouse, that carbon fibre being strong tensile wise but not compression wise, the titanium carbon fibre interface and their different stress deformations due to pressure, having the Titanic OST playing the whole time, like multiple safety shortcuts and maybe using a game controller as your only form of any interaction, like what happens if some kid bites the cable or something

  • Well fucking done, easy to complain, fuck I do it regularly, but LaDarrion put the effort to actually make something where he identified a lack. He stands head above most in actually writing a book and then it mentions he is self taught, may his endeavours yield all the fruit he has sown and tended to

  • Well wasn't the first design change where you had to report where the inspiration came from Adrian Newey copying Williams square defuser to the Redbull. Clearly he does not have tunnel vision. Also someone of his stature could actually have free reign and make his mark he might have always dreamed of

  • Well no one person leads to a teams success, it has to be the the right team at the right place at the right time.

I am a big fan of Redbull and Max Verstappen, but to me even though I grant him and his team success which they have earned through blood sweat and tears, the current domination, like Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton and now Verstappen, a bit overwhelming.

So a shake up in the current order will be amazing. Not sure if 2026 will be the year for the shake up but if I were a betting man my biased money would be on a certain team winning this year and next year if things don't change to much.

But well done Newey, all the best in your new venture, may it bring you challenges and intellectual fulfillment.
