  • OSMand has a feature where it can process other info as tiles on top of the base openstreetmap data it downloads, so what I did was pulling satellite and live traffic data from google and make them work as tiles and it works perfect (although it doesnt take traffic data into consideration when routing, it only shows it as a picture on top of the map, doesn't bother me).

  • Definetly some sort of all-in-one place client centralization feed (like cats/dogs/cute animal pics in one place, all my linux and general tech in another, etc). Like a mini reddit, but client side, so it doesn't interfere with the decentralization stuff going on.

  • Rn the state of Infinity for Lemmy feels mostly complete (aside from a few expected bugs built from being a fork working with a totally different API), but besides that, the app is absolutely fire. I was a heavy IfR user in the past and it even convinced me to make an account (I was mostly a lurker) but when spez starting treating 3rd party devs like shit I gtfo there, just hoping that docille or another dev would have forked infinity and yet, here we are.

  • Choose wisely

this a one way street in my books

  • Well, first I would like to adress the elephant in the room. Samsung/Google Pixel is not in it's entirety Android. There are lots of other brands out there, each and every one of them offers different things to different people who ask for different features.

About what you're asking for, can't actually help with group chats (the US has a culturally attachment to iMessage, which is locked down to iOS), but for iCloud well, you can have your stuff in google drive, or on a offline drive (most of modern android have otg capabilities), or even selfhosted if that's your kind of thing.

Seriously, give it a try and see for yourself how mature now is the OS and ofc see if you're staying ;)

  • What was your first reaction to the massive exodus from Reddit during the blackout? Was it something you were expecting?

  • This, in conjunction with OrganicMaps/Osmand is god.

  • Using IfL rn. Feels just as right as og Infinity (which I solely used during my time on Reddit), no unpolished experience as of UI, but I'm expecting to see some bugs and inconviences as usual (as of writing I'm using v0.0.8) but let's be real guys, Rome wasn't build in a day.

Feels absolutely on par with Liftoff (v0.10.10), and Jerboa (v0.0.42), which pretty much sets my happily permanently staying on Lemmy.

  • Another use you can give it is an offline, turn by turn navigation gps. OsmAnd is an excellent app that provides you with offline navigation. Install something else, like a modded Youtube Music/Spotify app or even AntennaPod if you're into podcasts and you pretty much have a cheap, budget Android Auto unit. Sure, it will not be the best of all, but it's pretty much free at that point, and it will get the job done.

  • I'm actually using an old Android I had laying around and collecting dust (Huawei P20 Lite), battery was pretty much flopping, but as a Linux user tried to give it a second life and made a sort-of Android TV box of it.

I installed a TV launcher and 2 main apps (SmartTubeNext and Cloudstream), then connected it to my main Linux laptop through cable and run a program called scrcpy which let's me duplicate the image/audio to a separate window in my laptop. Cheap and dirty, but it works flawlessly.

  • Salvadorian here. Ppl here definetly use whatsapp as a pretty much jack of all trades, including work stuff. Weirdly enough people don't care about privacy, despite the fact that any other messenger app is far way superior that whatsapp, people just don't use it or put any excuse to not even try.

Hell, if you tell em "I don't have an account/wa installed" like myself, they pretty try to exclude you or advice you to install it and to stop being a pain in the ass to deal with, it's just plain ridiculous

  • Wild to me that there is a law that legally allows me to literally shoot someone on sight, but can be arrested if trying to sell inofensive, day to day stuff at my house. American priorities first I guess?

  • But it's your house !?

I'm no lawyer or anything, but isn't there a law that lets you do whatever the fuck you want to your house (something along the line of "castle bla bla bla doctrine"?

  • In Latin america is pretty much the norm that in small neighborhoods there is at least 2 to 3 small stores in ppl's houses. I dunno about the US, but it can definetly help with the "car everywhere" culture, the enviroment and why not? also letting people getting some extra bucks by providing their neighbors with stuff they probably don't want to buy in huge quantities or are too lazy to drove to the store for.

  • Pls don't tempt me to jump to Fedora, that color pallete looks sick.

  • It was lurker's paradise (me included) before actually changing to Infinity and making an account. Sad to see a nice project go dark because of reddit greediness.

  • Got around 300+ hours into Borderlands 2 and around 600+ into Warframe
