  • I'm sorry, nobody taught you that "that hurting people actually hurt people."

But that's just the point. We can't excuse behaviour like this as "boys will be boys". Behaviour like this needs to have consequences that actually hurt, not a slap on the wrist, so these kids have a chance to learn.

If they get away with this with just a "Hey, that's not okay, don't do it again. Teenagers haha", what you actually teaching them, is that it's not that bad. And they grow up into adults who think hateful language is not that bad.

Teenagers might have underdeveloped judgment, but thats not necessarily something they learn on their own. Moral judgment isn't genetic and something that you grow into on your own. Moral standards and judgments are taught by your society and your environment.

So do me a favour and teach teenagers instead of excusing them with their age.

  • Apologists like you are part of the problem and one big reason why it's still there.

This is not an abstract problem of rhetoric. Shit like this is actively hurting people. It normalises hateful speech and behaviour against minorities.

  • He had a near-death scare and changed from "for the good of the people" to "everyone for themselves" and sold out to make as much money for himself and his family as he can.

Just my theory, but shit like this can change people when it shows them their own mortality.

  • Rule of thumb on the Internet, if you can't see how it's payed for (subscriptions, ads, donations...) then you probably pay with your personal data.

Especially true for apps and games. "Play totally free, no annoying adds or in-app purchases" means "Here is a trojan horse pretending to be a game while farming every possible information from your device to sell to the highest bidder".

  • Do every test available for prevention and prophylaxis.
Get your general practitioner to do a full health check, ECG, EEG, cardiac ultrasound, a full blood panel, bloodpressure, pulmonary function, skin cancer prevention ect.
    Schedule a gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Check in with an urologist to get your prostate and urinary tract checked.
If you can, get a full body scan. Either PET or MRI.

Nearly every serious disease or health issue is easier prevented or treated when caught before it casues real issues.
Every cancer there is, has a better outcome and is easier treated when found early. Most of them are silent until very late in the game.

This is something I would recommend to anyone: Take advantage of every preventative messure or examination that is available to you!
There is no illness that you can detect too early.

  • I often see people post about things like that in my neighbourhood network.

Ask around in your neighborhood and on next door or a similar online community. Especially in cities there are lots of people around who love dogs, but can't have one of their own. Some of them might be happy to spend some time with your dog during the day.

I actually did that for a while with a neighboring cat. Instead of hanging at home, I would just hang at their palce for a couple of hours in the afternoon to keep the cat company. This wasn't pet sitting, just spending quality time with a pet that would otherwise be alone for the whole day.

  • Times did change though, quite a lot even.

I'm not LGBTQ+ so I can only say what I know from other people. But when you speak to older gay people, boomer gays and such, they tell you awfuly heartbreaking stories.

Of course gays and other LGBTQ+ folx still get hated on and discriminated and there is still a long, long way to go.

But that doesn't change, that nowadays you can publish loveletters of two men, without destroying the lives of each person involved. Back then, the letter writers would have probably ended up in prison and everyone else with knowledge of them or any kind of involvement would loose their jobs and carrers and would have been shunned. Someone responsible publishing them or making a film about them, would probably go to prison too.

So yes. I'd call this a more enlightened time compared to Europe in the 1930'/40's.

  • Not the answer to your question, but I find it important to point out, that atheist and non theist are not necessarily the same.

A non theist isn't necessarily a non believer who rejects all religion like the general understanding of an atheist.

The Dalai Lama for example calls himself an non theist and so do I as a Buddhist. Buddhism is a believe system, a religion, that does not believe that there is a god or gods. Some subdivisions of buddhism believe in divine beings you can turn to and pray to, but they all used to be ordinary humans, same as the Buddha, who obtained enlightenment and transcended into a higher form of being.
