After the ‘Gulf of America’ aneurysm, I’m surprised the EOs mandating English as the exclusive language to be used didn’t specify you had to use ‘American’.
I cut my teeth with DOS and Netware, used Windows until the day 98 was released (had been using the GM for a month), and cut over to Slackware as my daily driver. Dabbled with Redhat before stabilising on Debian, which I’ve never found a need to change from for my headless boxes.
One thing I specifically remember was hand tuning my X11 config to drive my 15” Trinitron at 1024x768 @ ~68Hz.
Advertising needs to become as socially acceptable as smoking.
It arbitrary pollutes any environment it’s conducted in, and causes secondary harms to non-participants by incentivising insecure hoarding of private information with the intent to better target individuals.
It’s almost like granting a supreme veto to a single, wholly imaginary ideology, and positioning it as a monoculture for how society values activities and production, is problematic.
We apparently did away with it once before through the separation of church and state, maybe it’s time to force the separation of bank and state.
On 2001-09-12, Al Qaeda and bin Laden became superfluous, because the US and its ‘allies’ stole their playbook, rebranded and packaged it as the Patriot Act, creating the world the original authors had envisioned.
The switchover for cellular was 3G (HSPA) > 4G (LTE).
Data transmission over 3G is encapsulated over the audio channels, and pure LTE is VoIP over data channels. Most networks relied on both during the transition, and it’s the reason many ‘4G’ capable handsets were deprecated when 3G networks were shut down, as they never fully implemented VoIP for audio calls.
Incidentally, DOCSIS (v1.0 - 3.0) downstream channels are encapsulated within MPEG2 frames.
The default in iOS is to load a preview of the link while showing a menu with the option to copy it. If I’m copying a link, I want to sanitise it by removing utm and other tracking pox before pasting it. Automagically loading the preview prevents this for the initial request. Signal is the only app I’ve seen which does this properly, providing the ‘copy link’ option without loading a preview.
Additionally, it would be great if there were an option which could strip tracking tags appended to URLs when composing posts. I know I’m in the minority who actively do it manually, and it could be an effective way to prevent trackers from spreading.
Nut milk comes from male cows.
