  • Like people said, a lot of companies have stake in real estate.

WeWorks, for example, was supposed to be big IPO and big payouts for these companies. And because of WFH, WeWorks is near bankruptcy with 12 cent stock.

Only way to avoid further real estate losses is to force employees back to office.

  • The main issue is that no-one in past, be it movie, music, or gaming industry, had the control which Google has with the web.

Web is 90% Chromium, Email is 60+% Gmail, Android is 70+% mobile worldwide, and Google already provides a lot of things like Google login, oAuth, etc. for free.

This means for a web dev, making a website WEI compatible shouldn't be much of a hassle, and if they protest, Google can totally twist their arms to get us way.

WEI is dangerous because who's behind it, not because what it is.

  • When Google forked from WebKit to create Blink, they had genuine reasons for it.

Apple was stalling any progress of web by stalling new features in WebKit. They wanted to push their native apps and get big cut from developers' money.

Google had to fork and progress web dev further.

And unfortunately for us, Google folks are greedy assholes who stop at nothing to own everything web even if they have to bend everything.

    WEI is a perfect example.

  • Plex is incredible in this. It collects metadata, downloads subtitles, and even skip pre and post credits.

Also there are tools like Filebot (old version) for subtitles, and TV show Renamer (free) for title and metadata.
