  • California is an absolutely beautiful state. Its natural beauty and geography are spectacular.

But it's crazy expensive, Californians are annoying and elitist, and has big social problems in its cities.

  • I'd use a mainstream distro. I came to Linux in 2017, used Ubuntu for 4 years until I got tired of them forcing snaps down my throat, and then went to Arch. I have never distro-hopped, but I also have never had any huge issues with the mainstream distros.

The main distros really are well maintained and do tend to "just work". Dare I say, especially Ubuntu.

  • Yes. It's actually rather tragic I strive to run my business NOT using big tech. But we need an app for our users. On Apple this means you simply MUST pay apple. 100/year is not a lot. I just don't want to give them my business.

  • If true ew. I actually just recently learned that Windows 11 requires a Microsoft account (you can disable it by going into the registry) but it officially actually requires it. Fuck them.

  • I feel a little more sympathetic to them for the Nazi stuff than for any current shit they pull.

I have to wonder, had they said no, what the German state would have then done to them. Essentially any state can require a company to produce wartime goods.

  • I think we've lost thr plot a bit. Yes, the US is one of thr only countries without a national ID, but that's sort of beside the point.

Whatever ID you onr is forced to use, national or not,, the issue is the state tyrannically policing teens behavior.

  • I think IT might not be as easy as you think. Academia is a bit more open.

IT isn't quite high skilled enough to get in. They'd almost certainly need an employer to say they couldn't find a European to do the job, which is exceedingly unlikely.

  • I've managed to do it for my personal email and find it very rewarding. Sadly, I could never use it for my business. It's just too risky and there may always be a few delivery problems here and there.

    VPS hosting, BTW, not home.

  • I earned a lot of money in high school. Now I live in Europe and the culture is very different. That sort of thing isn't done here.

I actually don't know how I feel about it one way or the other. It's different, but I did like actually having a decent amount of cashflow for a teenager.
