  • Well, yeah, but sometimes I don't think I can make a high-quality post to a community like "Data is Beautiful." I was mostly a watcher. But you are right, of course, it's in our power to bring communities to life.

  • I agree, but I would say the story was central to gluing everything together. I don't know if I would have been as invested as I was if it was a worse story and just great puzzles. So now I wonder what they are going to do story-wise. Still, I'm more excited about this than another Serious Sam =) btw, the most hidden mechanic I learned was that you can use a 3rd person view, which I preferred much more than 1st person

  • Your comment resonates with me on more than one level. I joined Lemmy after Apollo went down, and incidentally was also excited to see ObsidianMD (hello, fellow Obsidian user). I was hoping people would migrate over from Reddit but alas, I still have to go where the discussion is. I kind of feel bad about it, but still do it. I also feel like moving away from Reddit saved me from hours of mindless doom scrolling, although I suspect that now I am doing that when reading Lemmy local.

  • Wow, did not expect it. I am torn now. The original felt self-contained, compete, the story ended properly. Can they really continue the story in a compelling way? Or are they making an alternative story unrelated to the original? I loved the OG so much, I hope they won't screw it up.

  • I am genuinely curious why Philip Dick is so popular among the film makers. I think I read somewhere that the reason might be because his books are not very detailed, just sketches, which allows movie-makers to bend his stories to their liking. One author I would like to see adapted more, though, is probably Ted Chiang. Love his stories.

  • Agreed, if I read the book first I would not have thought someone could make it into such a great movie. Interesting observation about film adaptions. The only one that comes to mind is Starship Troopers. What are the others? Also, it's interesting that they chose this little novel to make Predestination instead of his more well-known books.

  • I read it because it is pretty high up on the Good Reads Sci-Fi list. It was a short and interesting read, the premise feels fresh. The writing was good, I did enjoy sarcastic remarks by the murderbot. But I was not super excited to continue reading the series. Somehow, the premise of a murderbot felt like glorifying social awkwardness and isolation and that did not resonate with me. Probably not the most popular opinion, but that's how the book made feel, anyway.
