  • Oh yeah theres an open source offline wikipedia app called kiwix so its even more fitting

  • Looking through yhe website has me a bit confused. If I want to use this and backup my computer to say Google Cloud. Do I have to set up a VM with google cloud and install software or what? I can’t seem to find any info on what the price will look like

  • weed legalization is definitely something that will be pushed for. I wont be surprised if it happens federally as a hail mary to try and win back young voters

  • Tldr: The answer is actually to outcompete them. People will use the app/website that brings them more value.

They already have the ability to subscribe to a thread and get notifications for new posts, quote posts, and an optional algorithm that recommends you stuff based on your likes. Things mastodon does not have will be coming fast to Threads. When they decide to come for Lemmy they will have features they see people begging too.

If its way easier and more useful to find information on Threads and their version of Lemmy people will start using it more and more. If AskDocs, AskHistorians, LegalAdvice and other useful subs popped up on a Meta version of Lemmy I would use a Lemmy instance that federated with it because its valuable information I want access to.

Just like twitter and instagram are basically required right now for 3D artists to find jobs, we will be required to use Facebook’s version of twitter, reddit, and instagram if they get the huge user base that twitter and reddit are pushing away, tiktok might lose from a ban, and they already have from instagram.

I hate facebook/meta but if its the best place to find information and work i will use it just like i currently begrudgingly use instagram for finding work.

We need to realize that evangelizing like Stallman is NOT how we grow the open web and FOSS. it’s by making killer apps/hardware like the Steam Deck did so well. People don't use tech for the philosophy behind it, they use it as a tool to complete their task or improve their day. At the end of the day the best tool wins, not the most ethically made tool.

Currently the best thing we could do is get Lemmy to work better with mastodon and vice versa. Thats done by allowing Lemmy accounts to follow Lemmy and Mastodon accounts and by improving the UX for a Lemmy post to be made with mastodon so people post to a community like they would use a hashtag

  • Invite codes for so instances dont have to be approval only it can be approval and invite

Subdomain based usernames instead of two @‘s like @nix.merv.news as my username so every OS doesnt think its an email when clicking. Plus its easier because I can just share nix.merv.news and people can just click it and go to it.

Being able to change your @ without losing your posts. Being able to keep your followers if your instance goes down

  • Cant see them, it says “Permission denied it might be restricted”. You can upload images in the comments here

  • You need to relax. You can just explain your points without calling people fuckwits etc.

  • Its actually not that much work or money. I’m pretty bad when it comes to servers but i run my instance with about 50 users and pay $15 a month because i went with a more expensive host. A single user instance could spend less than $8 a month and setup isn’t hard

  • Which are the 3 better self driving ai?

  • It would be sad. There’s great communities and members in beehaw and they make great contributions to the fediverse. What would be the reason to leave? What goals does beehaw have that are limited by Lemmy?

  • It’s a virus causing increase in heart attacks, strokes, organ damage, brain damage, and permanent disability for people of any age. It’s nothing like the flu other than being airborne and initially showing up as respiratory symptoms.

Endemic just means that its regularly occurring because we’ll be getting reinfected over and over. Endemic in no way means its better, its much worse. The term is used as a way to admit defeat and manufacture consent for us to move on because we can’t stop the spread. We can stop the spread though. High quality masks, CR boxes, far uvc lights like the Nukit Torch, upgraded hvacs, co2 monitoring. These are all tools that can greatly reduce the risk of infection and slow the spread enough to then stop the spread completely.

Governments and the rich rather just say “its endemic go back to the office and live with infinite reinfections and the inevitability that it will disable or kill you” and they will continue pumping propaganda to convince you its fine that they failed at protecting you and your loved ones because they rather you work amidst an active dangerous virus that can kill or permanently disable you than take steps to improve the infrastructure or continue work from home and other measures that reduce the need for commercial real estate

Its estimated that 10-20% infections cause long covid. Thats 10-20% of infections not people. People are getting infected 2-3 times a year. How many years will it take for you to become permanently disabled?

If you haven’t seen what Long Covid can look like here’s a youtube video of the science youtuber Physics Girl showing how shes been living for almost 3 years now after she got covid at her wedding https://youtu.be/vydgkCCXbTA TLDW: She can’t feed herself, walk, and barely has the energy to hold a conversation or read text messages. (She has a followup video posted a week ago where she hasn’t improved)

More info and more sources to my statements can also be found on https://covidwiki.org/

  • Yet he’s still holding the same position for some reason… its baffling he hasnt been replaced

  • How did you upload a video?

  • I have the same one its really nice and stopped my wrist pain. Have to clean it every so often though but its easy the bottom is magnetic so you just pull it off and clean the inside of the ball part
