  • Awesome! Ill be supporting soon please make a couple different tiers like $2 $10 and $15. How do you make that button so it shows Patreon with the number of supporters?

  • Chatgpt app is free

Oh you want specifically them to claim no logs?

  • offtopic but do you know who owns lemmy.com? It points to your instance and im confused why an instance isnt run using that domain instead of pointing it to yours

  • An american company that sells data to foreign intelligence so they can manipulate the public. Facebook is a way bigger threat to peoples freedom than TikTok but the CCP boogeyman has y’all in a chokehold so you’re distracted from the real threat

  • Well when the individual is sidestepping congress to give more bombs to drop on children and then turning around and wishing to be celebrated for building a port for aid to those children he just helped bomb it sorta feels like maybe he shouldn’t be applauded.

Also im sure this port will only be used for aid and never be used as a navy base of any kind and will never house american military and be used as an excuse to cause more bombings in the region or anything of the sort

  • Oh I thought closing the instance sent a delete request to all instances to delete all user data.

Do you know a way I can backup the database without any of the pictrs data and still be able to resurrect the instance? We didnt really upload images anyways and id rather keep the backup small making it more likely i can resurrect the instance in the future when i get more money and find cheaper hosting

  • This looks amazing! Any chance in the future itll be possible to also preserve videos? Maybe if i download a webpage and provide the mp4 myself? So i could save a YouTube link and then upload the mp4 of the video i saved using yt-dlp

  • Friendly reminder to add it to the seedbox :)

  • I dont want to block full federation i want to block image federation from other servers so when the big ones are attacked with csam my server doesnt download it. If someone uploads an image to a community on my server does it not federate and get downloaded by my server?

  • “Anyways they would have taken too long to implement” seems like a very odd take considering this is an ongoing issue that is pretty damn important. Some features that should be available is for instances to wipe images from certain dates, “muting” instances to prevent storing any images from instances that are not on an approve list and prevent users outside this list from uploading images to your instance, and an option to prevent any user outside your instance from uploading images to your instance.

Theres many mod tools like these that need priority right now but it seems like they keep getting pushed away

  • These are some really good points. I’m personally more interested in the development of PieFed than SubLinks due to the focus on making it easy to contribute, the developer cares about usability and mod tools, its in Python, and the developer posts dev blogs and answers questions on mastodon https://join.piefed.social/blog/

  • That fork will probably be nuked from GitHub soon people better make local copies and a p2p version of the repo if they want it to continue existing

  • Instagram and discord

  • Stack Overflow employs it for moderation and quality control.

Ive had almost every question ive ever posted on stack overflow sites locked claiming the question is answered elsewhere even though the question they point to is not the same as mine. Its so frustrating posting on those sites cuz everyone claims i should do what im asking some other convoluted way or that the question is the same as others which are outdated or completely irrelevant.

  • Little Brother is amazing. Its a novel that takes place in California after a terrorist attack and Homeland Security uses the attack as an excuse to go full fascist and start tracking and arresting people on terrorism charges with no trial.

It includes mention and use of a ton of real technologies (tor, torrents, linux, pgp key signing parties, etc) and the main characters are teens that use a jailbroken gaming console to create a p2p network/community of hackers to fight back against fascism. It shows how communities can organize and share files and information, how communities can be infiltrated, how people can avoid surveillance using technology and even simple things like placing a pebble in your shoe to avoid gait recognition (which the cameras in their schools use to track each student).

I highly recommend it! Homeland is the sequel and it looks like theres a new book as part of the story. I haven’t read any of the other books other than parts of Walkaway which I want to finish when I have time. Walkaway is a story about people who essentially leave society to build an open source society/commune

  • Not even the CIA believes it was the fault of Cuba “In January 2022, the Central Intelligence Agency issued an interim assessment concluding that the syndrome is not the result of "a sustained global campaign by a hostile power". Foreign involvement was ruled out in 976 cases of the 1,000 reviewed”

Also the embargo started way before 2016 so what weird point you have there to try and justify the richest government in the world punishing one of the poorest countries while it also bombs countless other countries.

  • How does it hurt Cuba’s economy that people can’t do business with them? How does it hurt Cuba’s economy that the most powerful country with the most influence over the world doesn’t let people do business with Cuba? How does it hurt their economy that its a pain in the ass to travel there? You must be joking
