  • I haven't played the Early Access yet as I don't want to spoil it (but will set it up to test performance this weekend).

But D:OS2 was great on console - even split-screen! - just the inventory management is a little bit more of a hassle with a controller.

But note BG3 is delayed on Xbox due to Microsoft insisting on it shipping exactly the same for the Series S too, which struggles with the split-screen apparently.

  • Technology is just a tool though. It could equally be used to stop tax evasion entirely, and all sorts of crime by tracking transactions and abolishing cash. Location monitoring for evidence, etc.

Like surveillance isn't a bad thing when your house is burgled or you get mugged.

The real issue is that the politicians are often the ones doing the tax evasion, fraud, etc. in the first place, and they don't care about violent crime that only affects working class areas.

  • Bought it last night on Steam to get the Digital Deluxe Edition bundled in the Early Access price.

    It looks incredible.

My only concerns are moving the ability score points from races into just class choices might mean humans are left underpowered? I haven't seen how the new D&D5e handles this though.

Also how alignment is handled, because the original Baldur's Gate was awful for playing an Evil party. And that also meant a Paladin never faced any real hard decisions or trade-offs to keep their vows, etc.

  • It's not just that though, but the general shift to identity politics - even in Britain you'll see "leftist" groups doing things like silencing "white males" etc.

And also in many cases their proposals focus too much on the symptoms and/or end up with worse consequences, which is exactly what Marx was against. Like decriminalising theft below 300 euros which is common in many places now, but just leads to organised gangs exploiting it (just like lesser / no sentencing for teenagers, etc.). Likewise for pushing for rent control which usually just results in great unfairness in who is lucky enough to get the rent controlled properties - and then pass them down in their family, so you end up with unlucky working people paying far more in rent than much wealthier lucky families and pensioners.

I still usually vote for the centre-Left just due to being anti-religion and republican (anti-monarchy). But I wish there were more sensible economic and justice options too - like supporting the working class by shifting the tax burden to property owners and the wealthy (and taxing unproductive economic activity) over income and VAT, supporting the free market except for natural monopolies, etc.

  • They recently tried to censor the Loretta scene.

This was actually a big factor for me in "leaving the 'Left'" - i.e. remembering back when it was the religious establishment trying to censor the films (and succeeding in many countries). And now it's happening all over again but by the new "woke" establishment and LGBTQIA2S+ movement.

  • The real issue nowadays is the software, although this is still a good step.

But being stuck with no software updates after 2-4 years still renders them unusable (when also locked down).

They should be forced to provide open bootloaders, firmware and kernel drivers once the devices reach end of life. Maybe even include hardware details and schematics, etc. for full repairability.

The efforts of devices like the Framework laptop and Steam Deck should be commonplace. It's insane we put some corporation's patents and trade secrets above the environment.

  • They weren't distributed directly by Valve though, there wasn't a standard hardware configuration, and SteamOS 3 and Proton didn't exist then.

I think with the strength of the Steam Deck now it'd really help to solidify the Valve ecosystem. Why buy a PlayStation and re-buy your games when you can just use Steam?

EDIT: That reminds me I really want a Steam Controller 2.0 too!

  • I live in Europe, even with more parties it's still a matter of "least bad" usually - like here in Sweden I find it really hard to find a party that is anti-religion, anti-monarchy and pro-science and education but also not lenient on violent gang crime and open borders. I also disagree greatly with the current unfair rent control system and the high income taxes (with no property, land or inheritance taxes), but there is literally no party that covers even just those 3-4 issues in the same way (and there are like 5 or 6 viable parties!).

I think the bigger issue with Biden is that there's just no change at all - no attempt to solve the biggest day-to-day issues of heatlhcare, housing and education. And from the point of view of Europe, Biden's Inflation Reduction Act has been terrible, directly subsidising industry to move to the US, right when Europe is struggling with the Russian gas crisis and the pipelines were bombed, etc.

  • Yeah, I like stuff being walkable too. The situation in some parts of the US and Mexico, etc. is crazy, I remember once my hotel was across the road from some shops and there was no way to walk across!

I just dislike this idea that working people don't deserve private transport. Like here in Sweden getting the driver's licence can easily cost $3000+, then parking is $200+ a month (especially if you need a charger), tax and insurance are another $200 or so but that varies a lot, fuel taxes are very high, and there are extra fees for driving into Stockholm (although you'd want to avoid it anyway!). So including the cost of the car you're looking at almost $1000 a month or so just for the car to be drivable - when you take into account that Swedish salaries are usually less than half of their US counterparts (especially in professional jobs - Medicine, Tech, Law, etc.) it becomes really unaffordable.

Even moreso with the rampant inflation and high interest rates right now.
