It's far worse than overcomplicated, it's negligently designed. The CAN bus is exposed through the exterior lighting in many new vehicles giving anyone with a $3 dongle access nearly all functions (door locks, alarm, engine control).
Would be a shame if Canada had to up the price to make up for the slump in sales. It costs a lot of money to run a smelter and lower production increases the overhead per ton of product.
I am having second hand experience this month with a 2024 RAV4 that has been valued (by the dealer that sold it) at 60% of the sticker price after 13 months and 12,000km.
Are you sure Canada will figure it out? If anything we have just learned that when Trump says jump our politicians say 'how high.' Immediately rolling back Canada's response without securing a loud and public promise not to fuck with us again does not show a lot of independence.
He is wiling to play "I'm gonna fuck you so hard-- just kidding" and Canadian's don't have the finances to deal with that every 30 days. A line in the sand that says "we are willing to continue to be your partner but will not tolerate ANY fuckery" is worth a some economic pain as long as it is predictable.
Keep the liquor bans, keep the tariffs on US products until the 30 days are up. A month of pain to make the point that Canada is not just an economic appendage.
CBC has slid very far to the right in the past year. Loads of anti-union, anti-electrification, pro-landlord, pro-privatization stuff. I'm not sure if they are trying to butter up the incoming government or if they just realized that rage-bait gets more clicks.
If it's a hybrid, maybe tell them to keep an eye on the 12v battery.
