  • There’s always next year

  • Except they didn’t move from it, but now I am tired lol

  • You’re right that the comment is broad. So I am not talking about any one academic field, like CRT or Queer Theory, but instead I was talking about the underlying philosophical frameworks like post structuralism and new materialism.

One grievance I have in analyzing some of the underlying frameworks is that there seemed to be a schism between academics, which started in the 90s, indicating that some thinkers where trying to re-insert idealist and structural binaries into new materialism, whereas it seems the goal for new materialism was simply to provide a framework for avoiding correlationism.

Here’s one text which validates what I am saying, https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1057/s41286-016-0001-y.pdf

I have some other ideas on this regarding subjectivity, but let’s not get into that. But as far as anyone should be concerned, nothing I am saying is against queer people, minorities, or their rights and humanity.

I get where confusion can arise, so for my part I’ll just make sure to keep it clear. Tbh, I was sharing my perspective as a hot take, so it makes sense why someone would find it provocative. I don’t think there’s any reason to assume bigotry, though.

  • The sea people sunk it

  • Ngl, I was expecting something spicier than your utterly reasonable comment.

  • Mega churches are still going strong though. There definitely needs to be a way (other than taxes because separation of church and state is impt) to get churches to spend that money back in the community, but instead it just ends up enriching the owners and investors. If there was anything which needed an anti-corruption intervention.

  • Depression and social media use is also a fatal combination, a lot of people online really shouldn’t be for their own sake.

  • But they’ll elect MAGA again because if there’s anything this election has taught me is that Republican voters have really strong group loyalty, and most undecided voters are low information voters and cannot be trusted to vote in any informed manner.

  • Maybe that was the goal? You can’t tell with people these days. Regardless, I don’t like someone assuming stupid shit about my morals and ethics. I know what I am about, so I’ll just continue doing that.

  • Tbf, the cost of college education increased at a rate faster than increase in wages, or increase in availability of salaried positions. Not only that, but housing became unaffordable for many because of corporations buying out cheap housing as investments. There are societal failures here, which is why loan forgiveness is reasonable and not just an individual responsibility issue.

  • No I won’t edit further, I hate the purity test I am being put through here, so I am just going to stop responding to this thread, thanks

  • I think that lady isn’t asking though? She seems argumentative to me

  • Don’t deny it

  • They/them is grammatically correct for singular nouns, but maybe it’s best to just use neopronouns in the case of someone (like this lady who is opposed to using someone’s correct pronouns) being difficult. But I feel people who want to be difficult are going to be difficult for whatever reason, and it’s not about the pronouns or grammar at that point.

    For reference https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singular_they

Edit why is my comment being read uncharitably by the downvoters? Its weird behavior, I don’t get why someone would do that lol

  • I have a different exposure to feminist movies, so I guess I use that as a barometer. I think older movies with the same themes as Barbie were already highly successful in providing a nuanced commentary on gender power and equality in society, and the role of women, sometimes chosen and otherwise. So that’s Legally Blonde, Persepolis, Wild (w/ Reese Witherspoon), Mystic Pizza, Bridget Jones Diary, and Waitress and some others I am definitely forgetting.

  • I didn’t thanks for letting me know

  • Damn, I worry this is going to create a lot of psychically and emotionally damaged people of all genders.

My advice to anyone dating is to protect yourself, but be open to the idea that someone may be a good person. If someone can’t be your friend, then they’re not lifelong partner material.

Don’t commit resources to someone until you get married, giving people money for a “relationship” is pretty much the formula of pig butchering scams.

    Be careful out there folks.
