I mean... like everything this comes in many levels... go on the main road with your car, cameras will catch you. sign in with your public transport card when boarding the bus... these are obvious. use a cab, pay cash. ride a bike, change cities, change states, change countreis... depends on your threat model I guess :D
if your travel with burner and normal phone for one hour, both switched on, cell tower registrations are in sync and both are easily linked. if your switch on your burner only occasionally at random locations, but your real phone is/was there at the same time they are linkable.
to use a burner:
never switch on at home
leave main phone at home, switched on
travel a reasonable distance before switching the burner on
don't travel with people who know you and who carry a phone
sim & phone mustn't be bought/topped-up in a traceable way
cover cameras at all times (there are 0click exploits available to three letter agencies)
don't travel in a traceable way
it's possible, but certainly not trivial.
also: depends on the power of your adversary, as always the personal threat model is relevant. using a burner to cheat on your spouse is not the same as using one when plotting to steal the nuclear codes.
this 100% plays a big role! friends of mine have a USA trip booked & paid for like 3 month now... they won't cancel - but they sure as hell would not book a new one.
took me a minute to realize that, too. The wording is just not too good in the graph. "Your tax bill would go up small amount" is not a proper sentence. I would have expected yes/no (which of course makes no sense either).
The question should have been: "if you earn $1 more now, will you have more or less money after tax?".
I was just checking used car prices in germany, and Tesla is well within the trend - maybe it just takes a bit longer to show on the statistics. I would be embarrassed to be seen in a Swasticar. Sadly I own a Tesla Powerwall, but it's easier to keep this secret :D
Any comment on the relation between signups/total-members/daily-active-users/users-never-seen-after-their-first-week? While the growth looks amazing, I wonder how many just try and leave.
I didn't even compare, just took a random one off f-droid, and it's already 10x better than anything reddit gave me. Maybe I'm missing out, but I'm still happy!
I had 5 different reddit accounts, deleted them all a week ago. Of course I forgot to have a look at the saved comments, but well.... old news are old anyway. I'm just blown away by lemmy, so much better ux, sadly way less content. But those numbers indicate that this is about to change, too :-)
I completely ditched amazon - private and for my company. there are so many other options, slightly less convenient admittedly, but also slightly cheaper. works for me!
