To many, federation is a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist for them. In their mind, the early model of federation is like email, a problem that was "solved" years ago by having one corporate product that was much better than others (Gmail).
To add, on top of that, the fediverse is like if gmail could just randomly decide to stop receiving emails from outlook addresses and there's nothing any user can do about it except make another email for when they want to email outlook users.
I don't think fediverse proponents know just how catastrophically this terminates their entire pitch in the minds of 99% of internet users
Why the hell not? Lots of via rail lines across the country have random little stops out in the bush so people can get on and off. There was no reason to not open the doors and let people walk around.
Despite having more money than god, he had "lovable dork" energy. I can't imagine squandering that. I would have just kept my mouth shut and only opened it when I wanted to talk about whatever new cool thing I decided to have built.
If it wasn't for hundreds of people likely losing their jobs it would be really funny that Sony's greedy, cynical attempts to cash in on the live service fad keep failing
I started on beehaw and moved here because they got too defederation-happy. I don't want to post on an antisocial network, if I want to be alone with my thoughts I won't go online at all. It's a valid choice for them to make but I believe in Lemmy because I want a non-corporate non-evasive Reddit, which kinda needs lots of different communities.
Really interested in this but would rather wait for a full release - just wanted to thank you for posting on Lemmy as well as Reddit. Everything about this project seems so sincere and I'm not used to that with new apps
Look you can go to the WoW, FFXIV, ESO, and OSRS subreddits or search for them on Twitter and see that the communities are still extremely active for these games. WoW has 75k on Twitch right now and MMOs are awful stream games. If you don't use mainstream platforms you're not getting an accurate read on what the mainstream opinions are.
It's a wet morning and the inside of your windshield is fogged up. (Or it's cold and there's frost on the inside)
