As someone who grew up in Texas, if you plan on visiting to see real Texas(sometime in the future of course) then I'd say come for the tex-mex food. Austin and surrounding areas would be good to visit.

It's still a shithole but I feel like its peak was 2015. Gay marriage had just been legalized. Crime at a relative low. Previous shittyness getting exposed at a high rate. Trump was nearly a forgotten figure.
