  • The chances of a person being homeless in the mid 80s is much higher than today.

  • 20 seconds on Google. The US government estimated 200k to 500k homeless in 1987 though this is criticized as a gross underestimate as they did not record it as well as they do today. Regan policies were responsible for a dramatic increase in the mid 80s.

  • Non-sensationalized summary from the article:

Although Section 702 authorizes electronic surveillance of non-US people overseas, the official summary of the reauthorization bill notes that "information about US persons may incidentally be acquired by this type of surveillance and subsequently searched or 'queried' under certain circumstances.”

The reauthorization bill imposes some new limits on data collection. For example, FBI personnel must obtain prior approval from an FBI supervisor or attorney before making queries about US people. But this provision has an exception allowing such queries without prior approval if "the query could assist in mitigating or eliminating a threat to life or serious bodily harm."

There are also some new limits on queries involving elected US officials, political candidates, political organizations, media organizations, journalists, and religious groups. There is a prohibition on "the involvement of political appointees in the approval process for such politically sensitive query requests," and a requirement that the FBI director "establish consequences for noncompliant querying of US person terms, including zero tolerance for willful misconduct.”

  • Homelessness is without a doubt a major problem that needs immediate attention but I wish they would give proper context. Homelessness was FAR worse in the 80s so these are in fact not record numbers. Also, take lessons from Mississippi on homelessness. Yes, Mississippi as they only have about 1000 people state wide who are homeless.

  • At least it didn't say "game-changer"... the worst of them all.

  • For reference a gigabit connection is about 35,000 faster than a 28.8k modem.

  • At least the technology was used to make this post.

  • I always thought it was fun to imagine you are an immortal being and you get to walk around pranking people like jumping in front of a train but just bounce off or eating a sandwich with bleach but you are perfectly ok then one day the sun balloons and eventually the earth gets destroyed and you are wisked away then eventually trapped in the gravity well of a brown dwarf star and get sucked to the center for trillions of years.

  • I hope you mean Mimtendow

  • Why?

  • If there are suddenly far fewer getting a paycheck there is still voting. I wonder what droves of the unemployed will vote for?

  • You cared enough to talk with me over 3 days

  • Who cares what she says if what she would DO is not support Ukraine. Biden criticizes Israel but who cares if weapons are still supplied. Words are cheap.

  • He called for an end to the war and a treaty which can only mean compromising and giving part of Ukraine to Russia.

  • Biden has criticized Israel and called for a cease fire. Yet he is supporting genocide? while West would refuse to help Ukraine shoot back giving Putin free reign to take a much as they want and steal s many children as they can and this isn't supporting genocide? Why not criticize both Biden and West? They both deserve it.

  • You have such a low opinion of a technology that, still in its embryonic stage, has already found its way into a large percentage of corporations that almost never adopt a tech this quickly. Already causing layoffs after so little time. Give it only a few more years.

Edit: not sure what you mean by machine servents. That tech has nothing to do with how ai is affecting the world right now.

  • Just as Stein refuses to support Ukraine, enabling Putin.
