  • Realistically speaking, we really need to start differenciating between restoring human functions (like artificial eye for the blind) and enhancements augmenting abilities normal human limits (that same eye having x-ray and nightvision).

Restoring functions, at least, should be treated as universal medicine and healthcare and be available for whoever needs it.

  • I heard many Salvadoreans support this (and the president). They see it as an exchange made for overall public safety. Can't comment much else, since I don't think I've lived surrounded by MS-13 and similar gangs to truly understand their desperation before the change.

Now, what happens if someone was falsely accused of being a gang member and thrown there? Are they able to get proper legal consultations and contact family members?

  • It's nice to have an ideal and wanting to contribute. Dealing with constant abuse and threat to your physical safety, mental health, financial and legal liability, etc., is not what everyone has in mind at start.

And this goes to Lemmy instance admins too. It's not supposed to be anonymous, but the federated nature makes spreading content with malicious intent very easy.

  • If we're comparing to human history, the Aztecs weren't singlehandedly defeated by the Spanish. The conquistadors had plenty of assistance of other nations that wanted to see the Aztecs gone. We all know what happened afterwards, but even if you went back in time you wouldn't convince a single Tlaxcala warrior that their newfound awesome ally against their sworn enemy was actually the "bad guy" - until much later, that is.

So, if the aliens started an attack against whoever the superpower happens to be, they would have plenty of assistance as well. It's human nature.
