It was mentioned on the Kill James Bond podcast; The James Bond character continuum.

The reason why James Bond looks different over the years is because James Bond is a position and not a person. Multiple agents have held this position. When one is killed or captured, another agent takes over.

So, where did the different agents end up?

Well, JB by Sean Connery was imprisoned in the US for his many crimes, rape included.

Lazenby quit after his wife was murdered.

Roger Moore, I don't remember. Killed by Dolph Lundgren, probably.

Timothy Dalton, don't remember.

Pierce Brosnan was captured by North Korea.

And here are the implications: Sean Connerys James Bond was imprisoned on Alcatraz, and his later life is depicted in the movie The Rock.

Pierce Brosnan is still in an NK cell, deprived of any social contact, tortured, 99% PTSD by what little remains of his body weight. As a coping strategy he has escaped into a fantasy world of his own making. And from this we get the movie Mamma Mia.

Currently using a Galaxy S21 FE. I'm honestly not rhat picky, as long as it's not apple, and as long as it's fast enough, as my employers have paid for them. I got this one after being on the wrong side of the country while my phone died, so I had the shop clerk phone up the guy at the head office to confirm that I could just pick one and send them the bill. The S21FE was what was in store at the time, and I was kind of in a hurry, as I was in the middle of a projectrelated field work.

I've mostly stuck to Samsung because that's the (mangled) version of Android that I'm used to. It takes some tampering with adb to remove the bloat, but once done it works really well.

The "best" phone (quotes, because I think that's highly subjective) I ever had was the Galaxy Note 2. I loved that phone. Great stylus, good OCR, and once it got used to my terrible handwriting, it was much better and less prone to error than typing on the softkeys. The Note 3 through 6 were not available in my country, so I know nothing. And it annoyed the fuck out of me that Note 7 was a safety hazard, because beyond that it seemed like a really good phone. Sadly the later iterations of the Note series seem too cheaply made. Plastic stylus, etc.

Honorable mention: Openmoko GTK 2. I loved it, but the concept of a linux smartphone (or smartphones in general) hadn't matured completely in 2007, so it wasn't at the stage where it could replace my dumb phone completely.

Today, as mentioned, I'm not that picky. I feel like most phones are the same, except the ones that are too cheap. There is only so much useful hardware that can be crammed into a phone, and beyond that there are mostly improvements on things such as the camera. The rest comes down to software.

I was surprised to stumble across a BIOS battery yesterday when I was taking out the drives to copy out some data, so I guess that aspect of it all is OK.

Fun fact: I work with both electrical systems and lithium batteries as part of my IT job. Yeah, it's a weird combo, I know. And I'm certified in neither.

Also, I've blown up a lithium battery on purpose at work as part of a battery safetydemonstration.

Good idea. That is exactly what I'm gonna do if this works.

I live in the middle of nowhere, so getting a new one with the right specs could take ages, same goes for the tools needed, as all I have is a crude soldering iron.

What I do have, however, is a place where I can get an adjustable power supply with the right voltage. They had to ship one in with enough wattage from a nearby warehouse, though, so they said they'd have it for me on Monday.

What I also have is ability to get a new laptop if all this goes wrong s9mehow, so I'm not that concerned.

While not common, I unfortunately have some anecdotal evidence to the contrary: I was an illegal* in Texas for a month, and i ate quite a few babies* while there. Not only that, but I was the wrong* skin color too.

*: I was there as part of my job, on a tourist visa, which does allow for meetings and such. However, there were some last minute changes to the plan that involved some "proper" work that was originally scheduled for a different trip. Big nono.

*: Despite my dislike for chicken, I ate quite a few at company dinners.

*: I contracted a pretty bad sunburn while there.

These fascist-wannabe fucktards probably would make some impressive contortionist performances while bending over backwards to explain how I'm not the type of immigrant they're scared of.

Oh, and for the "they're bringing diseases". Yup. I've had COVID twice. Both times contracted during business trips to the US. I had to quarantine before going "BaCk To WhErE i CaMe FrOm"

It just so happens that there's a USB-C close to ir, but I think that's just a coincidence as this laptop eats a lot more than even the beefier USB chargers. 20V, 14A. Some sort of square 4 pin connector I haven't seen elsewhere.

That was my first idea, but I couldn't identify any good solder targets.

This was a concern of mine as well, but from the looks of it, the battery is really simple with no apparent on board intelligence.

I'm fine with an "OmG Battaray err0r!!!!1"-warning that I can send to /dev/null as long as it works. I'm more worried about performance, as this is a gaming laptop that is used as such.

I could give you an answer now, but that answer would be obsolete by the time of filling the paperwork. Only uuidgen knows my true answer.

I realized a few years ago that my GF inadvertently solved this issue for me: She likes registering for anything that provides a discount, so I use her phone number.

"Are you a member?"
"Nope, but my GF probably is..", and 90% of the time I am correct.

Neither. By "we" I mean my colleagues and I at work. It's a proprietary thing we use. I cannot share the name as it's too easily googleable and doxxable, as it's a highly niche system.
