I instantly have more respect for people doing this and I think a lot of people do. There is a famous reddit post about a flat earther admitting he was wrong for example. Maybe we should consider it a strength of someones character (which it already is imo) to encourage it.
My personal, anecdotal Evidence is, that especially criticism of religious and political ideologies will summon a witch hunt upon you and possibly get you executed in public (ranging from exaggeration in the west to sad reality in some countries).
The dilemma is that small local businesses can't compete in pricing and most people struggle financially. One exception is buying produce directly from your local farmer, which probably is cheaper and fresher.
Seeing most people thinking assault is the better option, I am not surprised.
Even if you'd punch a nazi, do you think he'd go "oh shit, I get it now, sorry"? Usually both sides just radicalize more.
Be better than them, help people negatively affected by them, vote, try to be less cynical and more rational, instead of continuing the cycle of hatred. It is better for your own mental health and the lives of others.

Edit: Looking at the replies makes me think we're fucked.
I hope it isn't mandatory, because that would be undeniable indoctrination, but I imagine there is social pressure anyways. It's good to hear that some states don't do it. I hope it becomes less and less common in the future.
As a german, the standing up to the american flag and sometimes pledging your allegiance in schools is some insane north korea shit to me. Does that still happen?
This is super true. The more IT savvy you are (especially network administration and app development), the more you end up thinking "how the fuck is this legal and no one cares?".
Edit: Forgot to mention OSINT and pentesting as they are obvious.
How often I have seen older peoples unhinged comments on explicit posts, while having their photo, full legal name and sometimes their address and phone number on public display is insane.
Telling them this and running wireshark on their device, explaining the logs in simple terms could change their minds.
Go ahead and post some legitimate factual criticism on a major religion or ideology and see what happens.
