  • Yeah, how dare you use one of the oldest, most widely accepted forms of online payment, right?

I remember all the victim blaming back around 2010-2011 when PayPal users were getting banned on Steam because of random payment holds PayPal was conducting. They've done some really shady things over the last couple decades.

  • Yeah I have been saying for a couple years now that I have the lamest super power: a fairly accurate mental timer. It's not like I'm always on time myself, hell I'm late regularly by a few min to most social events, but I have a weird reoccurrence of being almost right on time if I have a timer going.

I use Alexa to set timers at least a few times a day. For brewing coffee, cooking, and various other mundane tasks. Nothing exciting. But I almost always expect that when I go to check on the timer, in within 10 sec. I'm not even consciously keeping track or looking at what time it is when I start generally, and sometimes I forget I even had a timer until last few seconds when I check on it.

I remember a few months ago I was slow cooking a bean soup that I like to go for 12 hours. I started it a few hours before bed. I woke up, went downstairs to start coffee, and the moment I walked in the kitchen, the slow cooker chimed because it had hit exactly 12 hours.

One of these days I'll use it to get my butt out the door on time. Maybe.

  • I'll be honest, after reading that article, it does seem a bit frustrating how they handled their leak, but it also doesn't give a compelling argument for calling it "one of the worst". There have been far worse providers, including providers that have not even been a true VPN. Or providers who don't protect you from DNS leaks.

While I don't condone security breaches, they happen (I'm a 25 year IT veteran myself, and currently in cybersecurity and systems management). I don't use NordVPN myself but one of their competitors for many years now. I truly couldn't care less about their ads since I never see them, I only care about the security of the connection. At this time, I only know of this one breach of essentially one server, but they are doing pretty much everything right in investigating and fixing things so it would never happen in the same way again.

From that article, even after they documented NordVPN's findings and their own findings, they still gave them a score of 4/5. That's a far cry from "one of the worst" as you put it.

Yes, I could search for it too, but I was asking you specifically. It sounds like you might just have a grudge against their ads, but hey I get it, ads suck. Literally the only ad I ever get for them is from in-video ads from Harry Mack, but he freestyles them soooooo I'm pretty okay with those.

  • I just always do it out of habit when I number movies because of the rare possibility of a series going into double digits. Obviously I wouldn't need to ever worry about it with LOTR or anything that is definitely over, but regardless it's not painful to go back and edit.

Edit: also I've considered switching to Jellyfin myself, but I've had a Plex Lifetime membership since line 2014 and as annoying as they sometimes are about emailing me, I do like the polish it has.

  • Yeah it's not the end-all-be-all solution for sure, but it helps for a large majority of movie series. I also use Plex Meta Manager to automatically create collections nightly for series, actors, genres, and even a handful of playlists.

Edit: and to add onto your example of Bond, yeah I just make that a playlist because it'd be way too confusing for me and most people who watching from my server.

  • Even better, you can do it by editing the "sort title" so even in the library they show up in the order you prefer. So in this case I'd change them to be "Saw 01" through "Saw 10" and I won't have to mess with a different view for those circumstances. I do need to go back through and edit a handful more of my movies because I've slacked off lately.

  • Am I missing something here? Rust on the Linux Kernel is in reference to the programming language, not the game so I can't tell if you're mistaking the OP's topic or I'm missing your sarcasm.
