  • Gonna have to go with alcohol and benzodiazepine abuse for this one, basically because it's the only one that I have beaten (citation needed). Only one relapse in the past 10-ish years or so! Though it took a few relationships with it, and I've gone through multiple hospitalizations (some even voluntarily), and because of that combo and all the other shit that was going on in my head (not to mention the cocktail of SSRIs and eventual SNRIs like Effexor at max dosage combined with stuff like Seroquel at max dosage for literal years, of which Effexor is still the bane of my existence; and stuff like ECT) there's like this hazy quality in my own past for me. As if I'm talking about someone else. I can't even remember most of my life from around 2013-2018 or so.

I'd say the worst part about abusing benzos with alcohol is how good it feels. I still have the cravings. Like even now I'd be up for it. That combined with the fact that it only brings out the worst in me, every narcissistic and sosiopathic tendency is not only brought forth but amplified also. And it's unhealthy in general.

So if you don't happen to die in your sleep; once you wake up and realize just how many people you've hurt, when the full weight of your own actions and the coming consequences descend upon you, you just might hope that you did. Vice, thy name is me

  • The type of language spoken in that general area (along with at least one neighboring town) is considered "the purest" in the nation, as it has the least regional differences compared to anywhere else, so much so that the nation's most famous composer's wife (herself an accomplished academic) used to live there back in the day to study the language.

  • oh wow I'm shocked, absolutely flabbergasted I tell you!

  • Yes, I agree, and I do believe the kid's parents would also agree. And it's not like the kid is given free reign to roam the internet, looking for the most cancerous, brain rotting, worst AI-slob the internet can provide, no. It's more like a TV basically, with age appropriate shows running in the background, and in our own language no less. He basically seems to occasionally take like a breather of sorts, stopping for something to bite or a sip of his milk or whatever, before running along with his childish endeavors.

But yeah, absolutely. Too much screentime in early childhood can and will lead to developmental delays, and in order to raise the optimal human being one should optimize every aspect of the child's life, adjusting at optimal intervals all according to the child's personal development. But you know, life doesn't work like that. And yet, as I just stated to the comment you replied to, I am thankful for your concern; we're all trying to do our best for this kid. If my little gift of an old laptop can bring joy and happiness into that little dude's life, that is basically enough for me.

  • I really don't want to start arguing against this sentiment, because I agree with it. But the kid in question is not my son, and however much I personally don't agree with using a screen as much as my friends have with the kid, I also understand why it has come to this (that the kid's parents had decided to use a screen to calm him down, which it does) and how different peoples' life situations can be. Also it's not like he's completely swallowed by the bright lights and colours and noises the screen provides, at least as far as I can tell, as whenever I am or anyone else is around he likes to do other things as well (such as playing with his physical toys or engaging in other activies kids like to do, such as climbing furniture and doing somersaults and stuff) though I'm obviously not there all the time. Also he goes to daycare where the screentime is minimized I assume, and more emphasis is given to social education and stuff.

And this laptop wouldn't even be his first, this would be basically an upgrade over the old, beaten-up laptop his dad has had laying around.

So yes, thank you (all of you, other comments as well) for your concern for this child's wellbeing. We will continue doing what we can towards doing the best we can with the information we have at the given moment.

  • Yeah that's part of the plan already, actually! Because that HDD is like real old

  • Yeah, I've considered Fedora a few times while distrohopping. But I didn't ask that.

  • Oh yeah, that sounds good. He's a smart kid already, for sure, and his dad is an old nerd (like me tbh, except 10 years my senior) so yeah, might just do something like this... But maybe at first keep it as a Youtube-machine, until he learns to speak and comprehend more stuff. But thank you for the idea, though! Really didn't consider this before.

  • Weird (but not really unexpected) that Chrome uses less RAM in this case. I think I'll consider this too, thanks!

  • Just realized it's 14 not 16, but yeah I actually used that thing for gaming! Even games that were kinda new back then, up until Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor which ran at like 10 FPS. Thankfully I got enough money to buy and build my first desktop after that. Which served me faithfully for some 10ish years with no upgrades, even running RDR2 (with graphics so low it could be considered minus), which actually kinda surprised me!

  • Addendum: I should add that the distro should be Debian or Arch based basically (as these are the ones I know best, or have the most experience with), because if something doesn't work (for some reason) I will be the one debugging it, and I kinda don't want to learn a new distro and its quirks in order to do so. Because I'm lazy like that. So I'm gravitating towards maybe Manjaro or L/Xubuntu.

  • that kind of careful lawyering takes time

    This is advanced skullduggery!

But yeah, no one was ever going to do anything about anything. Why would they? It's not like they actually care about you people. And it's not like my country isn't a trainwreck on fire sinking fast into a swamp, but at least our cops are given an education longer than that of a barber's before being given a position of authority, with deadly force to enforce. But, given how much my country nowadays loves to ape whatsoever daddy Amerikkka has done or is doing (I'm looking at you currently-being-privatized once-public healthcare and fascists in the government!), I ain't exactly holding out hope for the future of our police force.

  • That was 5 years ago. What's with the fucking hold up; the fat, doughnut-eating, trigger-happy, right-wing gun-nut, klan-members that are the police force there didn't wanna agree to not systematically discriminate and/or use excessive force, huh?

  • You are very welcome to use it, my friend. I think it's very apt, but I can't remember where I read it for the first time though.

  • How many meals can this buy for those wanting? Shelters for the homeless? Treatment for the sick? Oh wait, I forgot. The US is a third world country with a Gucci belt. The fascists do what the fascists do.

  • Demand away. None should indeed be given for these wealth-hoarding parasites. Gun down more, I say.

  • I haven't been diagnosed with ADHD, though my sister has been, and I have a history of depression, anxiety and personality disorders (and I'm most likely a bit autistic) as well as a stoner.

Anyhow, maybe you could focus on the parts of your ADHD that do get worse, see if you can identify them and then maybe work on those? There rarely is just one "panacea" that works for all, as you might know already.

Also, have you tried other ways of enjoying the product? Vaping or eating even (cannabutter etc), instead of smoking? It delivers a different effect on the body, which might affect the cognitive and emotional response differently. I have noticed that for me, vaping is usually considerably less in your face and might even pleasantly surprise me when the high hits, and space cakes just seem to hit the body more, making me more relaxed.

Also the difference between indica and sativa, between different strains, and different growing conditions all will have an effect on the product, right down to the molecular level, wherein some bud will have higher amounts of THC, which causes the "drunkenness", and others will have more others like CBD, which in turn causes the relaxation (afaik, not 100% sure on the specifics of these). My own experience is that the strongest possible sativa, laden with THC is more often that not worse for my psychotic symptoms and executive dysfunctions than somewhat milder options.

  • oh wow, a major media outlet caught lying? I would be shocked, flabbergasted even, if it weren't business as usual for them (emphasis on business)
