  • These are people who willingly choose to live in Antarctica for entire seasons or even years... Yes, I'm sure the overwintering crew would go out in shorts when it gets up to -10°C. I would lol.

  • As much as I love animals (more than most people I meet), as a species we must value human life over animal life to some extent. Suffering for corporate exploitation? No, that's cruel and evil. Minimal suffering in an organism to save a human life? I wish there was a way to keep it from being sentient (so no suffering is felt), but I believe it's a fair trade for a human life. But yes, we must always strive to minimize the suffering we cause.

  • This is what I love about the fediverse. On the Lemmy side we've seen it in action with lemmygrad. Private platforms need moderators to do that, which let's be real, doesn't generate enough profit to be worth their time...

  • He's saying this community is for memes (a type of funny image or joke, usually a cultural reference). So this is the wrong community for the discussion (and I honestly don't know where it would fit). Edit: I noticed there is a meme, but usually the caption is just for a very short description for the visually impaired having it read to them.

Also, they're taking your message as saying that science shouldn't be trusted (a common anti-vaccine and anti-education argument made by many Christians) - that's what they're referring to about the "man with the megaphone and sign." I don't know if that's what you were intending to say or not, but that's how it came across. Your point makes sense, but they're assuming your conclusion is that science in general is bad - mostly because of the recent political issues regarding that. Hope that helps.
