  • Not all of us to for the heavy makeup... Styles can vary pretty wildly actually, the defining factor is music taste and anyone saying you have to look a certain way is a gatekeeper. I mean obviously some dark-er style is expected or you're not a "typical" goth, but it doesn't have to be black lipstick and heavy eyeshadow always. A lot like the Victorian style with lace etc rather than more modern fashion, myself included. I agree it's definitely a professional photoshoot though.

  • Evaporation isn't the breakdown of 2(H2O) --> 2(H2) + O2 (hydrogen and oxygen) like electrolysis... It's just water molecules overcoming the intermolecular force and not wanting to be liquid anymore, H2O(l) --> H2O(g), still just water and sadly no good as a fuel.

  • Don't... I've been there. Tried it even. And after living a bit longer, I can finally say with certainty that I'm glad I survived. Will there be a heck of a lot more suffering? Yes, of course. Life is suffering. That's the whole point. And when you find something worth suffering for - and you will, someday; I didn't believe it either but it is true - you'll see beauty in it, value, reason to continue. If you think you'll hurt yourself, call 988 (in the US), whatever your number is there. Or call a friend. Yes, they really do care. No, it is absolutely ok to bother them at 12:30am. IK it's what we all hear and sounds dumb but it really will help. Get help. It's a hard step to take, but I wish I had earlier. Heck, DM me if you have to and have literally no one else. I can't promise the pain will go away entirely - it won't. But it will get better. Life is worth it - even when you can't see that all the time.

  • Not that bad actually. I've only ate for 3 days straight while backpacking so I can't vouch for long-term edibility, but I actually like some of them and the others aren't bad. Unless it's cold because your heater packs don't work and there's no MRAP available to heat it on...

  • If someone would give me a crate of MRE's for free, preferably with heater packs that, by some dark magic, work every time (they usually only with 30% of the time or so) rather than having to heat them on the engine block of an MRAP, I'd gladly eat marinara "meatballs," pulled beef and barbeque sauce, cheese "crackers," "lemon"-flavored beverage powder and "coffee" for a year.

  • The movies get silencers very wrong... It would be a bit louder than the acorn and sound much different (or about the same volume if the vehicle is really well soundproofed). The officer should have known immediately that it wasn't from inside the car. If it was a downtown area where stray bullets are an actual threat, I might have gotten down and scanned the area for danger, maybe radioed the possible stray bullet and assessed vehicle damage after a couple minutes. And that's just common sense, I have no real training whatsoever. But literally any kid who's gone squirrel hunting knows better trigger discipline than that.

  • Agreed. While a sniper round with a silencer or stray bullet from a streetfight hitting the hood of the car might sound similar, there's no way it could have been any firearm from inside the vehicle. A paranoid but well-trained cop getting down behind the engine block and visually scanning the area for danger? Understandable, but a bit silly unless you're in a dangerous downtown area. But emptying your mag into the car? You can't have people with firearms that poorly trained and that jumpy... I say if they must have guns (which could be necessary in the case of an actual armed criminal), send them to bootcamp and have the army drill some threat assessment and trigger discipline into them...
