  • you're joking if you think it isn't mimic tear and op weapon arts that get most of us through everything after leyndell. I didn't need to learn how to play to beat malania because blasphemous sword keeps her on naptime the entire fight.

  • Ok so if cops can prosecute insults and whatever how do you see that playing out? When will a cop decide it's something to let slide vs press the issue? forsee any problem with cops winding people up to slap more charges on them?

It's just not a good approach, to protect what? What's the harm done? They're trained, prepared, backed up, and the instigators of confrontation. If their feelings are getting hurt then their training or psych profile is the issue,

  • Nah get fucked. Like even when cops are doing sort of reasonable things like a welfare check they've gotta understand they're working in a charged environment. Like ambos will see blood and guts, fireies might get heat exhaustion, and cops are gonna have to expect to hear a few hurtful things and people resisting being confined.

It's just human to, it's especially something people generally disempowered do. Like if you're a billionaire with an army of lawyers it's easy to be composed, but the only justice a homeless guy getting moved on for the crime of existing might get is calling the jackbooted thug doing it a fucking cunt.

Part of life everywhere is understanding that sometimes you see people at their worst and you're gonna have to be understanding, and that's without any of the privilege and power of the cops.

  • There's an interesting game that's kinda similar called minit or something 60 second* time limit to play a zelda game but you keep some progress iirc.

    It's an itch thing.

That skyrim mod turned game umm forgotten city? might also count. Good shit.

  • I'm so mixed on heaven's vault. I think my steam review calls it the worst game I unquestionably recommend.

Like the moments of jaw dropping insight, when suddenly something clicks and a new interpretation comes to light. you go through the timeline updating, reinterpreting, and recontextualising. Coming out the other side with a revolutionised understanding of the world's history mwah. Or revisiting old sites and having a chuckle at how wrong you were.

Yet between that is completely pointless vehicle sections, arthritic walking frame point and click navigation, dialogue choices presented as "yes" that are acted out as "Well I know you are practically working yourself to the bone to give me a better life but have you considered that you're a shitstain and I hate you? well I'll consider it" that make the character horrible to play.

  • heavens vault is superior in terms of translation more accurately representing the puzzle. although the game is horrible to play and the MC is just so fucking mean

  • So extreme, not wanting to treat feeling beings as property and kill them.

    The most extreme of extremism

  • well he grew up in houso with a single mum so it's actually good when orphans are thrown into the crushing machine when he's in charge.

Like I'm glad we're not axing healthcare to pay millionaires more anymore and shit but my god we need higher standards in politics than "well, he's not hunting the poors for sport so what more can we ask for really?"

  • I dunno sorry, I never studied glasses. I'm gonna guess that it's probably not a true distinct phase and more likely a mix between various configurations, like a solid solution or sometimes. I'm just talking out my arse but.

It doesn't really matter, high level stuff like states of matter are pretty crude approximations anyway. Like yeah yeah you get enthalpy changes but that happens at all phase transitions so it's not exactly that special.

  • you might by confusing "solid phases" for states of matter.

If we draw a phase diagram you'll see shit like ice, ice 2: the cooler ice, ice 9: radical edition or whatever but they're all solid phases. The they just have different structures.

Sort of like lamp black and graphite are both forms of carbon but not really because that's got to do with distinct bonding. A better example, if you know your steels, is martensite vs autensite.

  • no, because it's everything is ludicrously complicated and the nuance often doesn't apply in the majority of cases or understanding it is contingent on knowledge that is much easier internalise if you operate under a simplistic assumption first.

Truth is for maths and logic, the rest is conjecture and models.

  • Really we should talk about quasi particles too. Not exactly a state of matter but stuff like polaritons blur a few lines.

  • re the reign of terror. Extremely bad yes but I think this quote by mark Twain highlights flaws in how we think about this stuff.

THERE were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror—that unspeakably bitter and awful Terror which none of us has been taught to see in its vastness or pity as it deserves.

Mark Twain, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court

They were trying to throw off a horrifically oppressive system that had been going on centuries. Defs killed too many innocents, defs had problems with paranoia. Also the lesser violence in the struggle between nobles and everyone else.

    The book is awesome btw

  • The chatbot doesn't know anything. It has no state like that, your text just gets appended to it's text.

It has been prompted to disengage from disagreement or something similar. By a human designer.

  • Holy shit your life is awful.

Good luck, I hope one day you find some people to trust. Love is a dear thing.

  • Yeah, I guess I was lucky in some ways because my family coming from Polish invasion survivors meant that I was raised with a strong emphasis on healthy peasant food. My grandparents in particularly always made sure we ate heartily, so when I was on my own for a bit and had to survive I knew that I needed crap like veggie stews and not instant noodles.

When I went to uni it was baffling sneaking in to the student accomodation to visit my girlfriend and seeing rich kids with literal fucking scurvy and shopping carts full of pasta and mince + instant noodles. Like friends, please eat a carrot.

  • so does milk, unless you're talking cereal with water. If you go that way within about a month you'll have started eating your muscles.

  • what is useful? Did I use my knowledge of polaritons when working for an insurance company? Perhaps the details of etching -OH terminated diamond under esem helped me when I was maintaining servers, no no it must have been linear alg that enabled me to tutor kids in ochem.

like my degree hasn't helped me to much explicitly, but it was fun. sometimes answering peoples' questions about physics is fulfilling to them, and the act of learning crap helped fill me out (including realising how utterly naive I was at assuming scientific knowledge was more valueable than other kinds).

You see a problem in our society: that we only reward a very narrow subset of kinds of labour and grossly unevenly at that and you blame people for studying something that interested them. Why? Would we be better off if they were buying up apartments and renting them to an underclass? that's something that pays highly. Maybe we need more gunsmiths! afterall inventing the machine gun reduced death and destruction during war. Perhaps instead they should have studied finance, because we have far too few insurance brokers?

  • I'm talking people on survival mode, as I mentioned at the end of my very short comment just eat canned beans from the tin with no facilities to cook. Also you don't need to peel potatoes, you can microwave them also, or bury in a fire if you don't have electricity and are using one for heat.

Cereal is a scam, it's expensive and nutritionally pointless.

  • I'm into mutualism, are you 🧐
