Advertising goes way beyond fallacies. Companies are always finding ways to manipulate you. I could spend a year walking through a supermarket identifying manipulations. An easy one to understand is the ingredients of jam. If fruit is the first ingredient in your jam, then it must make it healthier, right? Take a look at the next three ingredients. Instead of using one sweetening agent, they use at least three so each one has a lower amount than the fruit ingredient.

New recipe! New size! Classic recipe! 20% more!

Don't let them tell you what you want and need. Marketers and advertisers will only lie to you.

It got Bush elected. It got Trump elected. It got Biden elected. If you think 50/50 means electable, then you really don't care who wins.

Bernie would not have been close to losing. Appointing another typical Democrat to represent the party will only result in close elections that can swing either way. Trump took that small margin of a win because he was not your typical candidate.

If either party can choose someone who will stand against the oligarchic trend, then there will be no contest against them. Such a candidate in either of the controlling parties would allow voters to rise above their fear based decisions as well as energize disenfranchised voters.

So yes, I am suggesting she was unelectable for those reasons. A coin flip win is clearly not electability.

I just realized a good analogy. Our two parties are comparable to Nascar in that they are stock cars with little to no room for modification that would make them faster vehicles. Trump won because was giving the middle finger to the other drivers. Bernie was disqualified because he was cheating with rocket boosters on his car.

Good thing they got electable Hillary on the ballot.

There isn't a perfect way to draw districts. I like sortest splitline for its simplicity and impartial strategy.

The best solution I can see is to evolve the House of Representatives into a body of proportional representation. This could be done in state level houses as well. Single winner, or other small number of winners elections should have ranked choice to make it harder for parties to maintain dominance.

I was riding with a friend who was playing some hip-hop back in early 2000s. This song was sexually explicit and had the line "bitch, eat my babies." As in telling the girl to swallow his load. I can never seem to find the song.

The issue that I am passionate about is election reform. Including things like getting rid of gerrymandering, making voting more accessible, making the houses more representative of the people, and breaking down big donor influence on elections and policy. Neither of the big two parties comes close to making any of this happen.

If these things are not fixed, the parties in control can do whatever they want. They can keep us divided by shouting about one passion-based issue in public then doing nothing about it while serving big donor interests in legislation.

I don't see how any mainstream issue matters when you can't trust elected officials to act on any issue you care about. That is unless you are one of the self-interested donors who writes your own bills. Then it still doesn't matter which party is in power because you can control them both.

I'm a teacher. They would understand that I educate the young, but would be nowhere close to understanding my students. They would think I teach a few children of the wealthy when I actually teach hundreds from the poorest of families in my area. Including several imigrants who speak a different language and many students with various disabilities.

Why do I have to know the gender of a person in order to talk about them in third person singular? On more days than not, there is conversation about someone I never met where there is an irrelevant sidebar to clarify gender before communication can continue. I find this relic of the language to be inefficient, pointless and annoying. Daily life would be a lot easier with a non-gendered word for referring to a single person in third person. Languages like Spanish, with gendered nouns, is confusing for even native speakers. I am fascinated by how different languages have different ways of being complicated as well as by their phonology and syntax. I asked my question because I was looking into how other languages use gender and came to the conclusion that none were free from that complication. So I agree with you so far. All languages have gender.

Which is your native language? I keep looking for ways to ungender my english if possible. Removing gender from language feels more honest.
