If you booted windows right now and played a game would it power off?

The PC does power off when playing on Windows. Sometimes right away, sometimes a few minutes or hours later.

On Windows there is an odd way of throttling which only sometimes triggers and lowers CPU frequency to 1380 MHz. It is bypassable via custom power plan. As I said, it only sometimes triggers. On Linux iGPU is never throttled and CPU is throttled around 97 C to speeds slightly below max MHz. Shutting down is, under normal circumstances, for situations where throttling fails. I have another laptop which successfully throttles and keeps temps below 90C.

I expected WSL instructions. Tyrns out there are instructions for both WSL and bare metal. MS outdid themselves.

I get thermal shutdown warning if I actually stressed the PC. (ie. played a game)

I can't realistically cut off my phone entirely but reduce the number of apps installed. I currently have only Firefox, Spotify, Proton Mail and Whatsapp which could distract me. Rest is utility apps like maps, calculator, messages etc.

I don't recall saying anything about smartphone?

Use EndeavourOS and set up ZRAM. ZRAM should reduce RAM usage while not slowing down your PC.

Which in turn caused the performance problems. Fast shader compilation extensions are available only on Proton 8 and newer.

My recent interest in rooting is purely because I have some foss apps that require root for me to use the full capabilities that I want.

Example? I personally just deleted unnecessary apps with adb and went on. Google Play services are still running but that is really it. After rooting getting updates will be difficult so you will want a custom ROM. Decide if that is what you want to do.

If only. Systemd is mature to the point it is the de facto init system and used by almost all distros. Wayland and its compositors are still in development.

I am just a regular user but on a smaller screen ie. 13 inch 1440x900 I just have a single maximized window visible even if I have multiple apps open like web browser because I can't see anything if I have multiple windows.

I actually like Linux defaults as they are but don't like Windows defaults, on Windows it feels too slow to me. I have 17.3 inch 1080p display.

Smooth touchpad scrolling on Firefox is a Wayland exclusive feature. I force Wayland for Firefox only for this feature.

Can you get away with old versions of Adoba suite? Latest versions typically don't work but you may be able to get old versions running without dual boot by using Wine.

I love my ">1 year remaining" on Steam downloads.

I read a post from Netflix tech blog explaining the selection of a thumbnail. A video has many thumbnails and Netflix picks one for you depending on the shows you watch and your country. From the new profile watch movies / series that are unrelated with romance and the thumbnails should hopefully change.
