  • It's not so strange is it? It's not like most people feel comfortable around trans people. It took a very long time before even black people were treated normally.

I don't actually like the term phobia either. People are not "irrationally afraid" . They just prefer hanging out with people they are used to.

  • It's difficult but worth the time if you have it. No other language creates programs with such guarantees for not having common memory bugs and performance like c.

  • There is a lot of money spent on making the media portray people as dangerous or crazy when they are protesting. And the media shapes the idiots opinions.

France is a role model in protesting for the entire world. Of course the American media often ridicules France. I wonder why.

  • Nah they want you to be shocked and start watching. Called engagement, makes money by upsetting peoples emotional state so they become nervous, unhappy, angry etc.

  • I loved it personally. Tech is in a awful state right now and it's correct to try and joke about it while we all lose decades of what previous generations built up as protection against these bastards.

  • Ratings are not just about an app functioning, it's about if it's any good or not. And by showing only reviews of a certain type, users might not see a lot of the complaints if they are from people on different hardware.

Seems like a way to limit effects of discontent in my opinion.

Let's say you have a Samsung s20 or whatever. Millions of people will have that. So if you are not complaining from that type of device AND from the same region, your reviews may not be seen at all.

This is how you make sure that bad reviews don't impact applications like reddit so much.

But hey, must be accidental, right?

  • Americans are generally quite stupid. Imagine asking private big tech to moderate what you can see online. :)

But it's the same in every country. The large masses are clueless. If you ask Europeans, you would get the same response even though it's Americans moderating it, which is even worse.

You know Microsoft is planning to put the next windows online and let people just access it? Same pattern here, people trusting big tech with their own privacy and integrity. So weird.

  • Not leaving Lemmy for Kbin. :)

You never leave your wingman Maverick!

  • Yeah I've had that experience too. But sometimes I write a lot of hackish code to get it to work, and then after spend time rewriting it so it's easy to understand. But it depends on mood. Sometimes I don't change it because it's complicated and it would be too much thinking required to make it better. :)

Programmers are often lazy by nature...

  • I haven't heard the term "corporate sterialized inclusivity" before... But yes, the main issue with the show is maybe that.

It's ok to get blow back, I don't mind. But the feedback was stupid at first. Basically "you are racist because you don't like the new star trek, it's inclusive, don't you get it?".

There is good storytelling and there is shit storytelling and this show could as well take place on earth, as an episode of Charmed.

  • Yes makes sense. Then its a different thing and you can just be happy that they are happy.

  • At least I liked Orville. It gave me quite a few laughs. And bad acting is fine when it's supposed to be a bit funny.

  • I wouldn't subscribe to politics if you want to feel good about the world... And tech is mostly the usual stuff about insane billionaires needing attention from the serfs to feed their little fragile egos.

  • I'm only on the end of season 1 but it's so super cheesy. He basically went "let anger into my heart", then proceeded to hit the wall a few times, and now he can't control his emotions anymore.

It's so teenage level, all of this. They could have created something great here but they clearly didn't care, and just put C level actors everywhere and hoped the audience wouldn't notice how bad it is.

The previous episode was about how the entire ship became like in the book the doctor was reading, followed by some horrible acting from the entire crew.

    Yeah I guess I don't know why I am watching anymore. I shouldn't.

  • Even earning money from them complaining since they are staying on the fucking site, watching ads, while whining. :)

They are "engaged" which means being active and that's what matters to reddit.

  • Yes the upvote and downvote buttons start a blue spinning wheel while it's doing something, and then shows the updated vote count about a second later.

It doesn't have to do with the phone. Probably it's waiting for a response from the server before it registers the vote, and that takes a while.

Edit: For me the animation starts right when I click, it's not delayed. Only the updated vote count is delayed. So maybe it's not the same issue as you are describing.

  • Yeah I'm at that stage too. I used to have a lot of time for projects but as an adult, I really have to be selective with my time and energy.
