Major version zero (0.y.z) is for initial development. Anything MAY change at any time. The public API SHOULD NOT be considered stable.

that isn't saying that you should change things, but it's technically not against semver.

given that the lemmy api is versioned separately though and it's currently at v3, with v4 in active development, that would be good to avoid breaking changes there. I don't know if that one is supposed to be sever though.

  • they're generally not read. it's just a bot account.

we need to update the text there to clarify that, it's come up a few times already, including people reporting automod pms.

in most cases these pms are a result of community moderator actions, so it's generally recommended to contact the community mods about this.

  • thanks for the image. for some reason i can't see the firewall event for your attempt, but when i tried to upload the image myself i found the event. it's a rule related to a php file upload vulnerability in software we're not even using, it's disabled now.

  • I've seen others report this before, it seems to be kinda random, as this works fine for most other users. Individual posts sometimes don't get accepted by Lemmy, but I don't currently know what is causing that.

  • a JSON parsing error is certainly unexpected. I wonder if you happen to be triggering some automatic Cloudflare WAF rule.

could you try uploading the same file from a computer? before uploading, please open your browser dev tools (F12) and visit the network tab. it should show some more details in there. especially the response tab should show an actual error message. in the headers tab, you could also share the value of the cf-ray header with us and we can take a look at our logs. please be careful not to share everything you see in that network tab, as there are values visible there that allow taking over your lemmy account. specifically cookies and the jwt value; in some cases also an authorization header. cf-ray is not sensitive, it's just an identifier associated with the individual request.

feel free to pm me the cf-ray value rather than posting it publicly.

  • we'll try to get the post out the coming week, at this time we're roughly looking at updating late January.

  • that surely wasn't intended to be paused for an extended period. I wasn't actively aware of this until now. usually we update all interfaces automatically shortly after releases.

i assume there was an issue at some point where the update broke something and it was forgotten to follow up on that later. I'll have a look at that later.

  • many communities would be happy to have more mods. many of these cases come from the lack of people volunteering to moderate a community. this is already being considered when people are promoted as moderators in communities by our admin or community team if a community doesn't have active moderators. we already try to find people that aren't already moderating as many communities in those cases.

  • suggesting β€˜crimes that have not yet happened’ - itself is not a violation

this was already covered. this is not a new change. if you write "someone should kill person XYZ" this is clearly a call for murder that we do not tolerate here. discussing jury nullification in the same context where murder or other violent crimes are suggested is what was clarified to be subject for moderator action.

  • it depends on what you're looking for.

there is a room for lemmy moderation in general, not associated with LW, but there isn't much activity: #lemmy-support-moderation:discuss.online

for LW we currently only have our mod coordination discord, which you seem to have joined already. you'll need to use the /verify command to link your lemmy account though before you get access to the channels.

  • no. you sent us an email from the address linked to the other account, which clearly proves that you still have access to that email address. control over that email address is how you prove that the account belongs to you.

you can use the forgot password link visible on the login page to receive an email to set a new password for the lemmy account as long as you have access to the linked email address.

  • please at least try to make an effort to understand technology.

after we received the email about account recovery from the email address linked to Don_Dickle we sent instructions there for how to regain access to that account.

  • this is a known issue with Firefox that started several firefox versions ago. there has been a change in cookie handling in lemmy since then to address that. we're currently reviewing our next steps regarding updating to a newer lemmy version and will post about that in the next days.

  • I haven't seen the actual error message displayed, but "failed external validation" is definitely how the scanning process works.

By illegal we are not referring to copyrighted content or anything like that, only much more serious things.

Unfortunately, this will sometimes falsely identify content that should be allowed. In the past this would have silently erased the image shortly after the upload, with this only becoming noticeable days after the upload due to caching.

  • i still didn't understand what you were referring to, but now that i looked at this comment thread on reddthat.com I can see that the other account that commented here is banned from lemmy.world: https://lemmy.world/modlog?userId=1250220

the justification for the ban is just "spam", which unfortunately doesn't provide much context, and I don't see anything immediately obvious that'd justify it. especially considering that it's been a year since the ban, it was likely not necessary to issue a permanent ban for that. i've unbanned your reddthat account now.

  • could you share some specific examples?

feel free to pm them if you don't want to post them in public.

  • do you have some more details about that?
