Now I want some AR glasses that display subtitles above someone's head when they talk à la Cyberpunk that also auto-translates. Of course, it has to be done entirely locally.
We’re going to allow some “flat earth” comments. We’re going to force some moderators to accept some “flat earth” comments.
In general I would agree, but if the community moderators decides to set some ground truths (aka an echo chamber), I don't think the admins should be involved.
Allowing these posts and comment despite these agreed upon ground truths (ex: the earth is round, vaccine works, eating animals is unethical, etc) is only going to generate noise by having to refute these again and again instead of fostering productive discussions.
I say let the communities handle their own affairs, and the admins should only intervene in severe cases.
That would put the burden of verifying the identity of users on the website operator before they can participate. Personally, I know I don't want to have the responsibility of handling PII just so that a stranger on the Internet can participate on a public forum where there could be harassment when I think we're doing a good enough job by moderating the platform with a decent set of rules.
And this kind of requirement doesn't really consider the nature of a federated platform such as the fediverse, as I couldn't vouch for the identity of remote instance users if we get audited.
Another added benefit is that it would also make roads lasts longer if water doesn't have a chance to infiltrate and expand into ice within the asphalt/concrete.
Love it when the hyenas starts eating eachothers.
