  • Yup, they cleared out a restaurant and likely gave him the clothes he was kidnapped in.

Its a PR move. "Ohh look, he just lives in el salvador now, no biggie. He goes to restaurants! Hes not in a brutal, filthy supermax prison where youre in solitary confinement for 23.5hrs/day!"

  • This is the world's largest thorium reactor. There have been other experimental ideas, but not many operational ones. The next largest operational Thorium reactor I can find is called kamini in India, which is 30kw. For scale, China's reactor is 2000kw.

3Okw is a toy. That would power maybe 10 US homes. 2000kw? That's more like 600 homes. Small, but usable. Fits the SMR niche well, actually. Making 1/1000th of the radioactive waste and basically no weapons grade materials locks in there too.

The article makes it very clear its running continuously, which is what they are celebrating. They have successfully refueled it while operating, which is a huge part of the "continuous."

The article is all of 6 paragraphs. It's not a difficult read.

  • "Homegrowns" itself is such a weird way to say "american citizens."

I cant tell if its just his drug-addled brain coming up with weird slang or its something elon shared from a DOGE boy.

Either way, it lets them avoid saying "we will deport Americans" directly while still floating the idea and getting the infrastructure in place.

  • That "less than a single year" was at the beginning of covid, and his malicious and cavalier response to a global plague hitting american shores led to a million dead Americans.

He was way more impactful about what happened with covid then anyone else, from allowing people to fly in unscreened to the states, from refusing to send out masks and tests, to pushing UV/disinfectant/invermeton, for refusing to help blue states early on because "it was good politically," on and on and on.

  • Using the stock market growth of the last 2 decades of global, neoliberal economic politics to council people to "think long term" about their investments at the start of isolationist, fascist economics policy is maybe not the best idea.

"Look at the past" only works when the past is still relevant. They are ripping up every norm and institution that made those past gains possible.

  • Glad to help. I've been investigating my own solar install, so have been digging into the specifics a lot.

Note that the above are the "best case" numbers. Panels can put out less power for lots of reasons. They tend to lose a little bit of efficiency when they get older. Think 1%/year, but that's just a rule of thumb. Being dirty can affect them, cloud cover, angle and position, and hilariously counterintuitively, if they get too much sun. Solar panels get less efficient the hotter they are, so an especially sunny day will lower the power output.

Leads to some complex effort to optimize, but honestly its power that just hits your house for free. That's a fine thing in any circumstance.

  • Looks like the model name is the wattage. Your panels are each making a max of 275w. With 14 of them, the max power they will generate is 3850w, or 3.8Kw. That's a pretty small solar deployment, about 1/4th the size of a array intended to provide full power to a US home. Still nice to have, but sized more to offset power costs than to eliminate them.

That means if you have one hour of full sunlight hit your panels, it will generate 3.8kw of power. If you go to this site it will estimate how many sunlight hours your roof will get per year. Multiple the sunlight hours by 3.8Kw to find your total possible power generation per year.

To find out how much you'll save, you need to know how much a Kwh costs from your local power company, likely between $0.10-$0.30/kwh.

So just with made up totals, if you get 1000hrs of sunlight/yr, you will generate up to 3,895kwh. At $0.10/kwh, you'll save $389.50/yr.

  • He can be impeached, especially with a house that is under the president's thumb.

It does create an odd situation in the senate about voting him out. I think dems would refuse a farce impeachment, even against the opposing party, but either way its a win for them.
