  • Most modular home battery banks can take EV chargers as an input. I know Ecoflow can, and I expect Anker solix can too. These circuits could charge battery banks instead, which the cars could plug into.

Sounds like they are getting battery storage ready.

  • You can't install an electrical outlet if it's not to code now. The "code" for electric circuits has been set for decades, and when updated, affects them all.

Requiring another circuit on a building with dozens/hundreds of circuits already doesnt add any extra burden, especially at the build stage like the commentor above said. Adding electrical when the walls are open is easy as shit.

Making up a regulation boogeyman about mundane, everyday building projects doesnt actually make them difficult, no matter how much you want to pretend they are.

  • Tailscale is an excellent answer here. They use wireguard as the vpn protocol, but add layers of extra control.

You can use it in sidecar config for each container, or setup a subnet router, which lets you route any IP over the VPN. Just target that IP with a /32 cidr, i.e tailscale up --advertise-routes:192.168.1.100/32.

  • I'm here for it. The 8 disc server is normally a great form factor for size, data density and redundancy with raid6/raidz2.

This would net around 180TB in that form factor. Thats would go a long way for a long while.

  • Not sure what you're going on about here. Even these discs have plenty of performance for read/wrote ops for rarely written data like media. They have the same ability to be used by error checking filesystems like zfs or btrfs, and can be used in raid arrays, which add redundancy for disc failure.

The only negatives of large drives in home media arrays is the cost, slightly higher idle power usage, and the resilvering time on replacing a bad disc in an array.

Your 8-12TB recommendation already has most of these negatives. Adding more space per disc is just scaling them linearly.

  • Excellent points. The military is a human endeavor, and is just as rife with all the same issues as any other organization, with all the expected biases. Boot camp is tiny part of overall service, and honestly barely relevant to the day to day. Mostly, you will have the same experience in the military as out, just with added hardships. People are still people, even when in uniform.

An attractive, fit, nuerotypical, charming person will have a much better experience than someone out of sorts with the above.

The military doesnt stamp you and everyone elese into the same person. It just presses you into a specific shape to do the specific task they need. Everything else is still there, if not exacerbated by the trauma of it all. They earnestly dont give a shit if that task destroys or improves you, as long as you do the task for the time allotted.

Different outcomes happen because people are different.

  • They do stuff like that, and honestly its not clear of its stupid, a rip off, or a desperation play.

Back when super monday night combat was about to die due to an insular player base and some actual light but real P2W aspects they introduced an opt in gpu bitcoin miner that gave you credits towards in game skins. This was back when bitcoin was like $600, and just starting to look like a thing, if a very stupid one. They were also selling some of their premium skins for $30, which was insane back in the 2010s.

The above was met with heavy mockery and nearly zero uptake from the community, and the whole game, which was a very rad and unique arena shooter, ended shortly after.

  • Class solidarity. The rich work together to fuck over the poor. The poor, being poor and having way more people and way less time, squabble amongst themselves.

The rich amplifies and intensity that internal battle so the poor don't realize that they already won, if they just work together.

You can watch it in action as all these tech billionaires fly out to meet with the presidential billionaire at his mansion and leave token millions in greeting. Im sure this "peak design" fuckwit will join them, given the chance.

  • So you literally defend the staff for not checking on him by saying that ignoring a child wailing in agony for 2 hrs and 15 minutes is the normal process for autism in schools, then you defend them some more by saying "somethings not right" that someone broke a bone from a fall?

    Fuck entirely off.

  • That was true a while back, but yes drives have gotten way better.

That's just failure rate though, not data loss. You need your drives using a sane file system like zfs or using raid 1/10/6 where discs can do error checking as well to prevent silent data loss.

They also need to be powered on. Offline drives will lose data to bit rot over time.

  • At the same time, laws can be challenged by blue states in friendly courts, tying things up. That's even if it passes. The house is down to 5 seats, many of them were mighty, mighty close. They will fuck us often mind you, but the mid hanging fruit will be hard to pluck. Rolling this back will affect 1000 jobs in Tennessee, so suddenly you have opposition in the GOP.

  • I agree the two are different, but not as different as you seem to think. None of these girls were raped, but this is still sexual abuse, especially because these images were shared.

Sexual abuse is complex, and far surpasses "slander," especially in ones formative years. This act of sexual abuse is going to change how 60 girls and soon to be woman respond to sex, likely for the rest of their lives. These images may follow them forever, causing heartache, job loss, on and on, and the damage will be done because this is a form of CSAM of them that is in the world.

That is not a light matter to be sidelined to a "hand slap" level of offense. I think the fact the perpetrators were also children should play heavily in their defense, but otherwise this needs to be treated as the sexually damaging event it is.

  • Are they fake? They are the faces of real children in sexual and pornograpic images.

I agree there should be more specific laws, but this still seems to fall under the current ones to me. These are not fully artifical CSAM, which is fucked up but has no living victim. These are sexual pictures of real children, that just have most of the sexual part generated. Thats much, much closer to full on CSAM then the above, and falls under the "spirit" of the law, which is to punish people that abuse children for sex. That is what these other children did to these 60 girls.

  • At the same time, allowing 60 children to have child porn generated with their likeness and then passed around to other children and the internet at large also seems wrong, even if it's generated CSAM instead of literally CSAM.

I would personally consider generating porn of a child and then giving that to their peers an act of child sex assault, even when committed by other children. That needs a legal response.
