They tend to lag behind on purpose for stability reasons, but a year out of date is pushing it.
Part of the issue they have is that one of the most popular apps for lemmy, Sync, has been abandoned by its dev. They said they have roughly 5k/month sync users, and if they update, their experience will break further. The egregious part is that app has subscription options, and it's still been 10+ months since the last update.
I left Sync for summit a couple of months ago due to the above, and boy howdy is it better. Actual FOSS, huge amount of options, very similar ux and flow as sync. It's a champion.
Here's hoping more people trickle off of sync to a better app and lemmy world can drop that from their issues list.
Right? Personally I would just remember 1234 as the first 3 digits of the Fibonacci sequence starting on 1 as intended by Fibonacci and not 0 and also not using the 1,1 cadence common later + the 4th digit of the Fibonacci sequence - the first digit of the Fibonacci sequence.
No problem mate. The thread is a mess, but if you read the comments below the top pinned one, you'll see most of the salient points that pissed people off. The "color" i mentioned above came from all over that thread, with some of it deleted. I know he edited/deleted the "triggered" comment when he was called out, but he never expanded on why he claimed the GOP was the "party of the little guy" and why all the "corporate dems needed to be thrown out" to get anything done. He also opted not to respond at all to people asking why he thought the party of tech billionaires was suddenly going to crack down on tech billionaires besides saying he really liked J.D Vance, a tech millionaire whose political run was funded by, get this, tech billionaire Peter theil.
Dude fawned very publicly over tech billionaire maga, who will do clearly do nothing for privacy and monopoly busting, while pretending that the real issue is chuck shumers and establishment dems.
More happened in the reddit thread though that added some more elements, like the ceo opting for a new user name with "88" in it (a common right wing reference), his unprompted use of the phrase "didnt mean to trigger you," him evasively refusing to clarify what his stance actually was because "that would be more politics," on and on. You can read through that thread here, although proton corporate are mods, so i have no idea what they may have deleted at this point.
The thread was full of "mask on" behavior that is pretty transparent to anyone experienced with the alt right on the internet.
Knocking 1 trillion dollars out of a global rivals stock market for one.
For two, making huge, huge headlines that drive huge, huge investment for your future, locked up models. That's why facebook released llama.
I think the first is a bonus, and the later is the reason. Deepseeks parent company is some crypto related thing which was stockpiling GPUs and opted to pivot to AI in 2023. Seems to have paid off now.
100%. Control of someones email is just about the #1 target for someone to breach. It not only gives someone a ton of data about you, its almost always the method companies use to reset passwords. Someone with full access to your email can wreck your day/month/year.
People are "hacked" all the time in massive breaches. Its accelerating, not getting less likely. Password managers are a huge target, and have been breached in the past.
If youre worried about it, use something like Aegis. Its an mfa app that lets you easily save password protected backups. You can set it up to automatically save a copy to a folder on your phone. Then just copy that file off and store it somewhere safe.
If thats too much work and you dont run syncthing/nextcloud/etc, they also have an option to let it it sync with the google backup service.
The above gives you the best of both worlds : strong security and strong redundancy.
Same issue. Basically no one knew who Lina Khan outside of lemmy or reddit.
She was the best FTC head in our nation's history, but got basically zero press out of niche online spaces. She was in no way a factor in swinging votes.
