  • I don't think Switzerland meets the definition given by @space@lemmy.dbzer0.com but there is the element of direct democracy, where any citizen can create a petition and if they get enough signatures it will go to a referendum, although ultimately it is up to the politicians to implement the results of the referenda.

  • For anyone that might be interested in this: it's only for certain ebikes. Standard ebikes that only pedal assist up to 25km/h don't need anything special over a regular bike, which afaik is the standard limit in Europe. You can get ebikes that go up to 45km/h and they are regulated more like mopeds, requiring a number plate, rear view mirror, and that the rider wears a helmet.

  • Electric cars. We have a solution to the exhaust problem now, but none of the other issues are solved so they are being more heavily emphasised, and with electric cars being touted as an environmental solution it's more important to point out the issues that they don't solve and that we need to go further.

  • It's not realistic to replace every single car with an electric one. It will take an insane amount of resources that we can't spare. We definitely should only be making electric cars but we need to have a lot less of them.

  • In the UK, the studies don't really matter to those in power, unless it's a study into how their mates are making money off it. If it's not doing that, we aren't allowed to spend any money (even if it saves money in the long run).
