  • I find the language you use interesting. Those who take their living room with them to save a few minutes "benefit", whereas those who have to breathe in the fumes and be victims of traffic violence are "inconvenienced".

  • Cars are one of the things that actually empowers individuals to live their individualized lives.

Only those who are able to afford to, and can safely drive a car. Cars, and especially car dependant places, suck for anyone that can't.

  • I spent a few years getting a school bus that only came once a day, I just got to the bus stop on time and it was fine. In most places your urban transport runs at headways of less than 15 minutes, and even down to 90 seconds, missing that isn't a huge issue.

  • Watch the video. They didn't literally sell their streets, they sold the parking meters, but certain clauses in the contract means the city has to pay up anytime they want to do anything that might affect revenue to those meters so it suddenly becomes much more expensive to do anything different with that space.

  • My local supermarket already doesn't use full size trucks, and many of the larger ones in my city are adjacent to tram tracks which I think could be used for deliveries. But if the supermarket has to spend a bit more to make my city's streets safer then yes using smaller vans is good.

  • Taxis are cool, they're a good way to fill in a few gaps for those that don't own cars or are visiting a place.

Uber and other ride share apps seem to just increase the number of cars on the road while also exploiting their drivers.
