The issue isn't Meta. In the EU like everywhere else, businesses rely on meta. If Meta exit a market, it has economics consequences and businesses will potentially close. The EU aren't ignorants as we see with the antitrust actions. They will evaluate the risk for the economy before taking a decision.
But, it still is pending. People are fighting each decision on transferring datas to the USA in court. They win the first round. No doubt, they will win the second and make mandatory the storage of datas inside the EU without exceptions.
Meta can fuck themselves and we will be happy to see them exit our market.
I don't have your issues with it. I have a ton of interactions on Mastodon and everything is clear.
The problem people have with mastodon is how they see it. You wrote all your rant about mastodon being a copy of Twitter with the Twitter terminology. Mastodon is not Twitter.
I did the same mistake at the beginning. I thought it was a federate Twitter. It made it empty and frustrating to use. I didn't understand what people do there.
I give it a second try. This time, I took another way to understand it. Instead of comparing to Twitter and thinking at a federated Twitter, I took it like a new experience.
After that, I discover the philosophy behind mastodon and it's completely different. It's not Twitter or a Twitter like. People are nice and really active.
The number of reply doesn't matter that much. What is important are the boosts. People need to find groups boosting the toots. You need to mention the group when you toot and you need to follow groups. The second is hashtags to follow and search for. But hashtags aren't the primary thing to follow.
Then, you begin to find accounts to follow. But keep in mind the philosophy is different and you won't use it as Twitter.
People on the right don't see the issue with neoliberalism. They are mostly fine with all the ads based system and corporate making billions out of the datas. Neoliberalism tend towards fascism with time. They will prefer fascism to redistribute profits to the workers.
The fediverse is a different point of view. You can defederate if it goes wrong with an instance what makes the profits by ad revenue impossible or too small. The big corps don't have a huge interest in these platform without profits. People on the right will follow these corps and the platforms affiliated.
On the left, people will federate. I recommend to have a good read about the fondation of the unions in the 19th century. People of the diversity will historically be on the left rather than on the right. Again, for the profits, the neoliberals will prefer to oppress you as a minority for the profits than to have social and societal consideration for you.
You ends with the people of the left coming to the fediverse and the right on corps social media.
You need to follow hashtags but primary groups. You will find groups boosting toots about your topics. It's the first accounts to follow then you will find others.
It's not that hard. People have to keep in mind, it's not Twitter and so it works differently.
People should watch the phone reviews during June. He scroll in each of them Relay for reddit.
