  • For me, it looks like people are mad at the US defaultism of the decision.

I understand why. It makes for part of the users no sense as they are protected by the law. It looks like a US "shitshow". Countries are protecting the IP of the person, making it nearly impossible to pursue someone. Others have law allowing the use and the copy of copyrighted material for educational purposes. Some allow the download of copyrighted material.

It's the same with GDPR. Meta must comply. There is no exception because US defaultism.

And we can understand this point of view too. It's not binary as the US people think it is. It's more mixed depending of the country.

Generally, outside of this drama, on the internet, people are reclaiming they right and don't want the US "example" anymore. They want the internet following their local laws like the GDPR for Europeans. They have the right to claim it. Thanks to GDPR, mandatory usb-c, battery replacement and others laws in Europe and outside, the consciences of are awakened that the US is not the model to follow in terms of law on the internet and technologies.

  • My argument is to not pretend it's illegal when it's not worldwide. What you write is American defaulting.

Maybe don't host in the US or in a similar juridiction. The same argument as self hosting.

  • This is one of these problem with multiple unsolvable issues:

    • people are used to ad block and won't change
    • the price is too high for part of the population (-> ad block for part of them)
    • $1/month, $10/year would attract new paid account but not that much
    • people can't afford/don't want a subscription everything
    • users don't see any value in it
    • a fraction of the paid will go ad block with the price increase
    • people will circumvent the ad block block
    • capitalism
    • ...
  • They are responsible, as this usage is clearly here by default and by design. This isn't the case with a pen or a computer. A tag has just one purpose, tracking, not multiple like a computer. This is a huge difference. When you come to privacy of a human, you must be precocious.

You can regulate it. It has not to be used as a stalking device by design. It still allows them on the market with this restriction. The second is to opt out by default from the system. People have to manually opt in in the settings, with a mandatory pop-up explaining the risk. It reduces the number of phone able to send back the location. Another regulation could stipulate the ban at the OS level from the functionality and make the download of an app mandatory.

All of these examples of regulation protect the basic citizen from the stalking capabilities, but don't ban the product itself. It mitigates the risks. It's good for the company and good for the citizen privacy.

  • Im expecting nothing coming from them. They don't care about privacy and personal datas. Otherwise, they would have fixed it.

The misuse was clear from the beginning. They knew about this type of misuse. But, they make money on this service and this matters to them.

We come back to the regulation problem. We need more regulations on these topics.

  • Why should I use my battery and my electricity bill to fix an Apples issue?

Apple has to address the issue with they money. If they can't fix it as people are using the product correctly (tracking), they shut it down as a temporary or permanently solution.

  • You're mixing socialism and communism. Going from here, you see more than two options what make it a non-binary issue.

Communism itself has multiple variations. What we saw until today with fever exceptions wasn't communism either. It was dictatorship using communism. At the beginning, they may believe in the ideology but once in power, they took another path.
