In RL there is an indicator on where the ball is and the ball cam works really well.
And the ball is bigger and slower/more floaty than an actual football—it's neither in this game.
I think the 3rd person perspective and RL-looking field make you think it's RL with people, but it's just PES with the camera set to 3rd person.
FIFA is arcade-y as shit, this is why PES fans hate it. It still looked like shit.
Like, I obviously haven't played the game, so IDK for sure if it's fun or not. You're doing the correct thing saving your judgment. All I'm saying is it hasn't shown anything new/revolutionary, and that rubs me off the wrong way.
Take it from someone who grew up almost exclusively playing PES and FIFA: this looks ass.
Also, PES always had this camera angle? It's fucking horrible. If you control the entire team, you absolutely want the sideline view, not that wonky 3rd person one.
Even if you control one player, it's just much easier to keep up with the constantly moving ball with a much wider angle. You don't want the ball coming from off screen like they show in the clip when the player scores a header—higher likelihood you're gonna fumble the timing, and if you move the camera to track the ball, you may miss the keeper coming out/a defender coming at you.
And what's up with those rules? 😂 They're comically generic.
Unless this game has a ton of cool ideas hiding up its sleeve and not showing it in the trailers for some odd reason, this looks so obnoxiously arrogant and I have no idea what the selling point is, if any.
And let me add: I stopped playing FIFA and PES because they both suck, so I'm literally the target market. But this doesn't remotely look promising. Like, they didn't even solve the animation issuss… players look so stiff and seeing how they receive the ball is jarring.
Hmm… I couldn't get into it at all, TBH. I tried it long time ago and here's what I remember: "go to X on the map and talk to Y to progress" really put me off, and I didn't enjoy the combat enough to put up with it.
I've been thinking about giving the prequel a shot though. Is it any less nonlinear?
Thank you for taking the time to include links! Very helpful.
So I'm familiar with all of these, but you encouraged me to give Aces Wilds and Brigador a real shot. Thanks again!
I'll comment on the ones I played and found interesting:
Furi and Nex Machina got really close to becoming favorites. Only criticisms I have: Furi's moveset is a bit too limited and I have an issue with visual clarity in Next Machina.
I freaking wish I could get into Vanquish! High-level play looks so cool, but apparently I'm allergic to aiming 😅
Strider is fun combat, but I can't get into the vania side.
ZeroRanger is great, but the horizontal segments put me off. Not a fan of horizontal shmups.
I'm familiar with Lords of the Fallen, but I don't enjoy souls-like combat. I'm a big fan of old school death metal though (Autopsy, Brutality, Immolation… etc.) so I'll check it out to see what that is about. Thanks!
I just set up Kingdom Hearts 2 on PCSX2 to try and decide if I'm gonna buy it on Steam.
Other than that, I'm finishing my The Wonderful 101 Hard playthrough on the way to 100% the game, and trying to beat all of Ken Amada's combo challenges in P4AU—27 down, 3 to go.
This game has a really good combat system, but so much bloat. It also falls in the same trap as Forged in Shadow Torch: most of the strong enemies can't be launched and most of the enemies who can be launched are too weak to withstand long combos.
I have a lot of respect for some Western developers, and there also is a lot of trash that comes out of Japan, but I don't care about your photorealistic graphics or whatever emotional story your team of wannabe TV/film writers cooked up: Japan just does fun better, IMO.
Amen. I also have a ton of issues with contemporary game design—padding playtime with procedural generation, prioritizing graphics, world size, or narrative over gameplay… etc.
Nowadays, I feel as if every game tries to compete for "most game" while lacking cohesion and polished ideas.
And to top it off: non-optimized game size. I'm sorry—I don't care if your game is $2.99, I'm not downloading 80GBs just to try a game I may refund an hour later.
