  • They definitely don't have to do this. Indictments and arrest warrants are typically sealed until they are executed.

When this happens to high profile public figures who are not likely flight risks, it's relatively common to let the target know about the pending case before they're in custody. It's also common to negotiate an arranged surrender with the target's lawyers.

The arranged surrenders benefit the cops because they don't have to waste time looking for the perp, and it benefits the accused because they get a little time to get their affairs in order.

In this case, I think there's some component of the prosecutor trying to publicize themselves.

  • Was this 4k video from an arbitrary source, like a random YouTube video? Or from United's website?

I haven't flown outside is Southwest in a while, but they have a bunch of licensed video content that is hosted locally on the plane. And therefore cheap.

  • It's illegal to use your cell phone's cell modem on a plane, because of an FCC rule, not an FAA rule. The cells in the cell network are designed for traffic on the ground. At cruising altitude, your modem can see way too many cells at once.

  • Plane WiFi is a modern technological marvel and you're lucky to be able to have it at all.

Not so long ago sat phones were the domain of the super rich, because they were paying several dollars per minute. Then it was down to 10 dollars for two hours of multiplexed satellite access. And now apparently it's down to where advertising will work. That's amazing.

  • Yeah, I am seriously upset. NASA press office seems to be telling lies left and right, and they think they're just pulling the old Washington spin cycle, but it's obvious lies. And they're easy out of line.

They issued a 248k "emergency" engineering study contract to SpaceX to support extra pax on the dragon. NASA press office claimed this award had absolutely nothing to do with Crew Test, but this was immediately contradicted by anonymous internal sources.

Heads need to roll at NASA PAO.

  • The long jump sequence is crouch, then jump. Close enough together that it registers and turns into a single long jump move.

The crouch jump sequence is jump, then crouch. And it's really just a regular crouch in mid air.

  • The mythological legend regarding Lesbos was that all of the women Lesbians started having sex with each other one time when all of the men Lesbians went off to war.

Edit: Sappho was a real poet really from Leabos, and is one of the founders of lyric poetry in Western literature. Lyric poetry here means mostly any kind of poem that's a lot shorter than the multi-chapter epics.

  • Can only shop during a specific enrollment period

With cars it's relatively easy to determine if a particular collision occurred before or after you bought insurance. It's also very hard to predict exactly when these commissions will occur. Consequently, it is not so easy to delay and only buy a policy when you already have a claim ready to go.

With many progressive diseases, it's much easier to wait and only buy insurance if you think it's going to be expensive, but haven't been diagnosed with anything yet. That's why health insurance has open enrollment periods.
