  • This particular backdoor affects sshd on systems that use libsystemd for logging.

your Debian system is probably not affected because Debian stable doesn't update packages very quickly. You're probably on an older release of the backdoored package.

  • "The Arabs" are as much one people as "the Europeans", let's just give Italy to the Roma people and demand that Norway take them all in.

The Jews didn't ask. Look, I understand acknowledging conquest and the reality of the world, but to pretend that the conquerors are the good guys while it's happening... Don't be naive. See it for what it is.

  • Well no, because self driving/autopilot is not something people have learned to use yet. You light think "the car drives itself, what's there to learn?" and recent mishaps with autopilot will answer your question. This is probably a requirement to protect Tesla from liability when a driver misuses autopilot.

  • Plenty of really expensive cars like Bugattis, plenty of airplanes and other potentially dangerous machines require a purchaser to be taught how to use them before they can take delivery. Many even require certification. Refusing to learn how to safely operate something is perfectly reasonable grounds for a vendor, dealer or manufacturer to refuse delivery.

  • Yup, Republicans are stuck in a conundrum: they've successfully sold fiscal responsibility and inward focus to their base, but that same base has been sold this idea that there's a chosen people who are entitled to the holy land. Well now they have to choose. I hope they choose the former.

I think there's a good chunk of Republicans who still support Israel at all cost, but I think the realization of what's happening over there is eating away at that steadily. I think America's support for Israel is slowly coming to an end.

  • I wonder if said money expert had the balls to explain why nobody saves money in the US. He touched on it just a little. He mentioned we are implored to spend. Not implored. Incentivized.

Every time a politician gets on TV and says we have to "stimulate the economy", what he means is he has to incentivize you to blow your paycheck the minute you get it. This is done by increasing the rate at which your money loses purchasing power. Then, when it's time for reelection, he will inevitably mention the fact that Americans can't afford a $1000 emergency expense. Wages need to go up! It's not the wage rate that makes us poor. It's the debasement rate of the currency. The debasement rate is a mechanism of wealth redistribution. Wealth is transferred using the cantillion effect from the poor to the rich.

  • FolderSync on android. It's the only automatic sync application I've found that syncs to mydrive.ch.

Also a couple of UI apps, BarLauncher, which is a notification thing that let's you put app icons to launch from the notification drop down, and LaunchyWidget, like a scrolling "fence" to dump app icons in on your home screen. They're both so simple, I'm surprised that nobody has built FOSS versions of them.

On my PC I don't use any proprietary software at all.

  • state rep cap

What you're looking for is "the congressional apportionment amendment", and it was passed by congress with the bill of rights, and ratified by many states but every time they almost met the 3/4ths threshold a new state was admitted, and it always remained short. 11 states have ratified it. It had no expiry and as such is still waiting to be ratified by the states. It needs 27 more ratifications to become an amendment to the constitution.

  • Yeah, all this means is that for most of the voting public in the US, Israel is a non issue. Both parties actively support Israel, so if you're pro Israel it doesn't matter, if you're sympathetic to Palestine, you're either going to vote or you're not. It really is unfortunate, those people are over there getting killed by the thousands, and Americans have no political option to help them.

  • Well there's reality and then there's these documents. It doesn't matter what the paper says, if enough people don't behave as if it is legitimate it will lose it's power over people. You're thinking from inside the system as if it is eternal made of stone. It isn't. It's made of us.
