  • Does Connect You work for you? I can send messages, but if someone replies, the notification only shows their number instead of the name I saved them as, and the reply doesn't show up in the chat itself

  • Interesting, so it seems to depend on how accessible the manufacturer makes their camera api?

Does that make sense? I don't know much about how this all works, to be honest

  • Oh, that sounds annoying. If it's any consolation, there's clip-on macro lenses for closer focus that can be had for just a few bucks.

Speaking from experience, you can produce some really cool shots with those, if there isn't any other solution for that problem.

  • Ohhh, okay. Gotta say, wouldn't have surprised me though.

auto-focus on the macro lens just doesn't work (making that one useless)

So you basically have a fixed focus distance, or is it all over the place because the auto-focus freaks out?

  • Oh wow, so it's even worse than I thought. It works on my one+ 5t, but maybe because I'm running DivestOS? Or one+ has just closed down the camera api on newer models

  • Yeah, the only alternative I know of would be Gcam with unnecessary permissions removed.

Other than that, the LineageOS default cam can use all the lenses, but doesn't have any useful manual settings.

  • OpenCamera is pretty damn good, offering pretty much all the manual settings you could want.

There is only one downside to it:
As far as I know, it can only use the phones (back and front) main camera lens. So if your phone has extra lenses for tele, night mode or whatever, OpenCamera can't do anything with them.

    At least from my experience.

  • Well, I'll file this under I learned a new thing today

  • Oh, I didn't realize it at first either. Played a while and thought Huh, this feels familiar, but didn't look into it until I randomly came across this information while looking up the games issues

  • After all, it was made by Obsidian Entertainment, the studio that gave us New Vegas. So there's definitely a fallouty feel to it

  • Oh yeah, it went completely past me, never really had this game on my radar. Only when it was free on Epic, I looked it up and thought Hey, I might like this

  • Either way, if I can't fix it, I might just put it aside and buy the original edition some day.

The studio who made the spacers choice edition apparently has a track record of problematic remakes

  • I guess it either doesn't have these problems on Windows at all, or the 3080 is enough to brute force framerates into the outer edge of the stratosphere

  • What's wrong with it? That's the version I'm playing, and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. It's been great.

Every time I go into a menu and back out, be it the journal, map, or inventory, the framerate just falls apart entirely, and I can only fix it by restarting.

Performance also drastically lowers when approaching certain computer terminals in the world, down to the point where the word slideshow is a perfectly appropriate description.

Now granted, I'm playing on Linux, and most other Linux users on ProtonDB seem to have these issues too.

According to a few benchmarks on YT, the performance in general is a lot lower than the original version, while not doing nearly enough in terms of graphics to warrant it.

Like, I know my GTX 970 is fairly old at this point, but there's other games with the same or even more advanced graphics that run considerably better on my hardware.

That being said, I do enjoy the core game. I just wish I could find a way to solve these issues.

  • Now if only the spacers choice edition I got for free on Epic wasn't such a shitshow.

But whatever, I have one question:

Is there a lesbian love interest in this game? Asking for a friend

  • Gotta say, birds that notice you and get all judgy are my favourite

  • And go to Nevada, which it is the gateway for.

Whoever gets this reference will forever be cool in my book

  • They could just align the text bottom right, where there's less gun poking into the area

  • Have someone else tell you what to do

If you don't have a someone, maybe AI can help you.
Now, let me preface this by saying I have an extreme prejudice against AI, but I can't deny its usefulness for breaking down tasks.

goblin.tools is a good one, and at least they state wanting to go open source in the future, and be independant from OpenAI. If data privacy is important to you, than that might be something to keep in the back of the head.

But damn, just typing in clean room and getting it broken down into all the little steps is undeniably helpful.
