  • Unless your media is made in Blender, then it's pretty good. Inkscape has been getting nicer, too.

    But that's about it, yeah.

  • Though we have to remind ourselves that it's mainly the EU Commission who does this.

The Supreme Court spoke out against it from the very beginning, the Parliament voted against it, it's really only the Commission who doesn't want to understand that EU law applies to them, too.

Quite a few positions in there that need to be held by new people who understand the damn law.

  • Valve is a lot more consumer friendly to begin with, though. Don't get me wrong, they did heaps of bad things too, but compared to Microsoft?

I'm not gonna hold my breath on this one

  • Is it? RCS can only be used the way Google wants it to be used, as far as I understand it. Which doesn't do much for the consumer.

  • Where does the energy go if you are already moving when you teleport?

If you are in fact moving, there'd be momentum, like you say. But if you don't? If you just sit there, and teleport from one comfy armchair into another, not changing anything about your position?

  • Okay, the funniest part about this is that even with all the bullshit Twitter/X does nowadays, those ads actually violated their terms, too.

    That is hysterical.

Dear EU Commission: What the actual fuck.

  • But what if teleportation doesn't move you from A to B, but just lets you disappear and reappear while you're just standing there, so that there's no momentum at all?

  • (c)helicerate, to be pedantic

  • 460ppi low-res? You got some proper eagle eyes, dang

Edit: Just saw your other comment, didn't know you could bump down the resolution on a Pixel 7. But scaling down to 1080 on a 1440 display won't look as good as native 1080, I reckon

  • Remind those businesses that if they don't have explicit consent from the people saved in their contacts, they are violating article 44 of the GDPR.

Same if their websites use Google Analytics without asking for consent first.

  • True, I always forget that exists

  • It does uninstall them completely.

However, the installation files are still there for the system to use. A factory reset for example wouldn't work the way it's intended to otherwise.

Though I don't know about how updates behave in that instance, so that sounds annoying if it's like this.

  • That would explain the joy I'm feeling when using my PC

  • I guess I'll file this under only proceed if you know what you're doing

I removed a package that was needed for the sim card to function once. Didn't remember what that package was, because I just went to town without documenting what packages I uninstalled.

That's a learning experience right there

  • One of the reasons why I like my desktop PC so much is that both webcam and mic sit in a drawer and are only plugged in for when I actually need to use them.

Android at least has the setting in developer options to disable sensors, which includes gyroscope, camera, mic and gps, I believe.

But core system services still have permission to override this setting. Which makes sense, you don't want your dialer app to break when calling emergency services.

But it does make me think, is Androids' sandboxing of an app enough to prevent it from abusing this possibility?

  • Isn't it funny how Nvidia wants you to use upscaling so badly for Raytracing to perform as well as they market it to, but then Raytracing itself needs more VRAM to run properly in the first place?

Nothing about their products makes any technical sense anymore, it really is just one giant middle finger at this point

  • If not buying a phone that comes with these preinstalled wasn't the first option you picked, then ADB is your friend.

    • Install Android Platform Tools on your PC
    • Enable USB debugging in Androids' developer options
    • Connect phone to PC via USB
    • Open terminal, type adb devices
    • Authorize the connection from your phone
    • Type adb shell, and now you can wreak havoc on your phone

so only continue if you know what the hell you're doing

    To uninstall an app, type
pm uninstall --user 0 *package name*

    For example,
    pm uninstall --user 0 com.facebook.services

Should you uninstall something by accident, you can reinstall by using
    cmd package install-existing *package name*

  • AAAA

    Jump
  • Surely it lets you choose what parts to disable, right?

  • I thought I'd just grab the APK directly from Github, but would you look at that, the latest release is from June 2022, same as what's on F-Droid

  • I hope we'll get to use LibRedirect, it does exactly that, but for a dozen or so services
